Hi there,

The Red Headed League
By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
From The Strand Magazine August 1891
Read by James Evans
Time 47:27

Audio at: https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/ssc109_theredheadedleague_je_128kb.mp3

Text at: https://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/RedHead.shtml

Please forgive me if this isn't necessarily the right place for this, but being new to this and a red-headed man I felt it quite fitting.
If there is anything wrong with it by all means let me know and I will endeavour to fix it.
Thank you very much,
J Evans

Thank you. It’s fine here, but we do have viewtopic.php?t=98922&hilit=Short+mystery if you prefer for future submissions.

Just one other thing: although the story is obviously PD, we prefer to use a tried and tested source, such as Gutenberg. It is possible there has been a change to the text (e.g. updated language) which would reset the copyright date. There is no obvious copyright date on this text.

I think it's some kind of future war where men and women are at war with one another. That's why they get so upset about seeing the cigarettes made for women and why they say if they really killed them it would be suicide. I think it's some kind of world where the women rebelled and the men are freezing them.

The Red Headed League

~7:18 I hear " "It is The Morning of the Chronicle of April 27, 1890" should be " "It is The Morning Chronicle of April 27, 1890"
~7:44 omitted phrase: "but now I only keep one;"
~21:15 repeat " "I started off, Mr. Holmes, but when I got to that address it was a manufactory of artificial knee-caps,"

Oops, thanks for that find.

I guess the story might be more at home in the sci-fi collection. I'll submit it there.
Thanks!
