This is the servant on page 4, I hope it is the right one.

Hi Todd

I updated the MW now, Alan, thanks. Yes I think this is the only line for that particular servant, and thanks for the lovely falsetto  PL ok

Inkell wrote: February 18th, 2024, 9:54 amOkay then, here is Asgill's Servant-
Act 1: https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/townbeforeyou_asgillsservant_1.mp3 (0 mins, 17 secs)
Act 3: https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/townbeforeyou_asgillsservant_3.mp3 (0 mins, 19 secs)
Act 5: https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/townbeforeyou_asgillsservant_5.mp3 (0 mins, 37 secs)
I think you found all the lines, Inkell. These servants are a confusing bunch. To make matters even worse, the one in Act 5 is working for old Asgill, not the younger one. :? But let's not complicate matters, I guess the servant ran back to the rich man once his young master fell into disgrace

All three acts PL ok. Thank you

I think this play has 4 different servants in act 1. They must have had a lot of spare actors in those days

yes ! Conway is great, such a good friend, but also explosive when feeling slighted. All these nuances are well acted

Acts 1, 3 and 5 are straight PL ok.

A few suggestions for improving the other two acts:

Act 2:

> at 0:14: (p. 34) "it is she" - you say "it is thee"

> at 2:08: (p. 36) "Oh that saves my life. And where is he now ?" - I would suggest saying the first line as the aside and the second aloud, because she is replying to his second question and the first was not meant for her ears to not give his love away easily. Often in old scripts the word "aside" comes after the quote it refers to.

> at 2:15: (p. 36) "but if you should not love me, I should die" - maybe the emphasis is best put on "me" (also in italics in the text) because he replies to the fact that another man got over her so quickly, but he won't

Act 4:

> at 1:00: (p. 59) "what grace can dignity of soul bestow" - you say "foul" which doesn't really make sense here ;)

> at 1:03: (p. 59) "the very conduct which..." -you say "conduit"

thanks

Todd: while PLing Conway I found that on page 35 there is a line for one of the three unnamed gentlemen entering with Tippy and Conway "why, Tippy, how is this ? is it the first of April today ?" we need another entry for that role in the MW :?

brilliantly naughty and frivolous, Jenn, excellently done  love to hear more from her. Thanks

Act 1 is PL ok.

One cut for Act 2:

> at 4:38: (p. 36) repeat "Yes I pitied him, because I could not love him" - is there one version you prefer, then maybe cut out the other :hmm:
