Actually, the raw recording passes our LV standards, although it is at the lower end of our volume range, and the background noise is heavy.

The edited version is cleaned up nicely, but has been amplified to be above our volume range.

Our technical specifications are a bit different from ACX because we use decibel scale for volume. Our target is 89 dBs with an acceptable range of 89-92 dBs. Your recordings come in at 89.8 and 93.5 dBs respectively.

Here is a tool that you can use: Checker https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Checker, written specifically for LibriVox. Just drag a file into the Checker window to check validation on all LV specs, including a readout of actual volume in decibels. Use the Amplification feature in Audacity to bring the volume closer to the LV target of 89 dB.

So, this is a provisional, OK, but I'm sure you can get the specs adjusted.

Thank you! I've not had any success in getting the checker to work so far. When I try to drag my file onto the checker screen nothing happens. Any tips for making that work? I can certainly get things adjusted properly. Is there another way to check the decibel levels in Audacity?

Try clicking "File > Check Files..." in the Checker menu, make sure that "File format" in the dialogue box that comes up is set to "MP3 files," not "All Files," then navigate to the file on your computer, select it, and click "Check files." That should work.
