See what you think:

Nicely read. Just some simple changes that should be easy to fix.

please delete about 1 sec at start so that there is between 0.5 and 1 second of silence
3:55 stutter on "up" in "he wizard took up his position"
about 4:08 stutter on "a" in "bringing a couple of white fox skins"
10:44 I hear "The white many are very many." Should be "The white men are very many."
16:20 I hear "walked" instead of "walled" in " that were walled into the igloo"
30:16-30:20 please delete this "he bandoned it..." as it is corrected at 30:20 "He bandaged it as best he could."
please add about 1.5 seconds of silence to the end so that there is around 5 seconds of silence.

Thanks,

M

You read the chapter very nicely, especially the parts with emotion in them.

There are a few changes to make this PL OK.

There is a fair bit of clipping in the recording, there are several ways of dealing with this. You can search the web or the LibriVox wiki for information or let me know if you are using Audacity and I can provide you with steps to get the volume within range without clipping. Or maybe you already have a perfect way of doing it and just missed that on this recording.

7:14 I hear "abroad" instead of "aboard" in "he landed him aboard. "

add about 1 second of silence to the end so that there are around 5 seconds of silence

Thanks,

Good job. This is PL OK. I have one comment for you for future recordings. I suggest you look at your microphone setup and not be so close to it and/or not speak directly into it as there are quite a few noises that can be reduced by addressing these two items. Here is a link to a page on the wiki about improving recordings and another to a selection of instructional videos.

Thank you so much! I haven't had the sound problem with previous recordings, and I tried to minimize it in editing but it was harder than anticipated. I thought it might've just been in my head, but I think I'll go back to my former setup.
Thank you for the heads up!

Let's have another go. I made modifications as noted. I can't believe I missed a few of those, especially the deletion! New file comes in just under 33:10.

An impressive job with the fixes. I wish I could do so well. (I am currently editing a file and some of my reading corrections really stick out. Ouch. ) This is now PL OK.

Thanks for the compliments. I re-recorded the botched sentences and slipped them in. It's tedious, isn't it!

43:58

This is a good book!
Davenport, eh? My family are in Marion, except for an outlier in Waverly. Actually heading up there in a couple of weeks. I hate Iowa in February. I always get stuck there an extra day or sometimes two. :)

You did a terrific job except that you need to add in one missing word.

3:33 missing "thousand" in "get from twenty to thirty thousand pounds of bone annually". Just add that "thousand" in where it needs to go, repost, and all should be PL OK.

The book reminds me a little of Moby Dick with all his digressions about the ins and outs of whaling, but written for a younger audience.

Thanks,

M
