History Of Missouri In Words Of One Syllable, by Emily Steinestel MacNamara
A simplified history of the state of Missouri, from ancient Prehistoric times to the late 19th century, written chiefly in words of one syllable. Books such as this one were popular around the turn of the 20th century as a way to help children learn to read. A book like this could also be useful for remedial readers and ESL learners as well. (Summary by mungojerry311)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://archive.org/details/historyofmissour00macn/page/n5/mode/2up (direct links provided in the Magic Window)

Deadline: Please submit your recording within 2 months of placing your claim. If you cannot complete the recording within this time, please post in the thread to relinquish your claim or to ask the BC for an extension. If your recording is not completed by the deadline, your claim may be reassigned at the BC's discretion.

Claiming sections: Look in the Magic Window below for the list of available sections. Post a reply in this thread asking for the section you would like to record.

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

As these chapters are designed principally for beginning or remedial readers, it is suggested that a slower pace should be taken in the reading. Nothing painfully slow, but a measured pace appropriate to the purpose. If you should find this too difficult, please don't worry. No one will judge you if you decide to withdraw your claim for a section.

Here's a short sample of what I think is the ideal pacing for a one-syllable book such as this one: https://librivox.org/uploads/xx-nonproject/onesylpacingdemo.mp3

Please do not begin recording your chapter until the BC has confirmed your claim specifically.

That would be great! However we have to wait for an MC to come along to make it official.

Hello, I will MC this for you. In looking at the Project Screen, I see you have not allowed a section for the Preface. Just double checking that this is intentional. I will be checking here for your answer and will then proceed to obtain your MW.
Best,
Christine

Thank you! I've purposely omitted the preface as it's short enough to be insignificant in my opinion. It's just a couple of double-spaced paragraphs on one page. I also omitted the preface from the "Lives Of The Presidents..." project.

I have a suggestion which you have already probably thought of yourself. To ensure that readers are aware of the special instructions in the first post, point it out when you approve a claim.
Hope this helps.

I think I'll do that. Also, I now have all the text links and estimated word counts in the MW now.

Hello! Here is chapter 2 (9:43). Thank you for the example recording. This was actually a really good exercise for me, as my cadence tends to naturally be faster. Hopefully this is to your liking, but always happy to make adjustments as needed.
