This has been in the hopper for almost a year. I've just been a bit lazy. In fact, it was The Twelve Sci-fi Stories of Christmas 2022, so the recordings have been done THAT long.

The Twelve Sci-fi Stories of Christmas 2023 is vol. IX, so there are MANY more of these to come.

vol.'s V-VIII are alternating week by week, and I just had three months off the podcast, as my microphone was stuck in Taiwan. So, they aren't finished. I'll submit future volumes in order, so as not to confuse listeners, seeing as IX will be finished before V.

The concept remains to record stories that have not been made before.

I, in fact, have so many lists, I was going to create some volumes for others to make. I could call them Librivox Reads Short Sci-fi. The short story volumes can be there to be filled as and when people feel like it. What do you think of this concept? I'd happily BC them, and even proof. I think the first would be 'Terrifying Beasties in Space (Librivox Reads Short Sci-fi, vol. I)

Have you checked out this thread yet? viewtopic.php?t=98183
I went through and tried to unearth all the unrecorded pulp sci-fi I could from PG and have been pushing it pretty hard in the Short Sci-fi Collections which quite a few folks have been picking up. I've been keeping it up to date as people record stories for the short sci-fi collections and elsewhere also as well as adding to it as I come across them, whether added new to PG or wherever.

I also mentioned it since you say your goal with these is to record some that haven't been done yet but I see at least a few in this collection that have been recorded before (Prison of a Billion Years, Bratton's Idea, Watchbird, Incomplete Theft, Bleekman's Planet, The Inquisitor and Traitor's Choice have all been recorded before). Of course, you're free to record them again for sure. I just wasn't sure that was your intention (for these particularly it sounds like you already have them recorded anyway).

As far as recording themed collections, that could always be fun. I've been running those kinds of collections myself with stuff from Weird Tales and people seem to like them (this one for example: https://librivox.org/weird-tales-presents-mad-science-by-various/).

I'm confused a bit - is this just another one like the others I MCed ? (Ed Reads Short Sci-fi, vol. II) etc. If it is I can set it up for you, if it is a group project I would sooner not.

I'm pretty sure this one specifically is a solo project. He was just asking about whether there'd be interest in a similar kind of themed sci-fi group project.

Yes, this one is solo. The rest is a proposition that I can basically set up.

Like I said, this was recorded a year ago. It seems most have been picked up in the meantime, which is fine. The tracks I made are there, so they might as well go up.

I wasn't aware of that thread. I will seek to keep my own lists updated then. And if the tracks are getting picked up at speed, then I'll chop down my list as I can. So, sometimes, there will be crossover of recorded and not recorded. I am making my stuff as a weekly podcast, which means it doesn't go especially fast. Some crossover will be inevitable, but that's fine.

Me putting tracks on Librivox is like 'going into syndication', so it serves a dual role.

I thought organising by theme was a neat idea. Like I said, I can coordinate it, and update the thread accordingly. That Mad Science track is exactly the right kind of thing. I'll set something up accordingly.

I can DPL. It looks like a bunch might come at once if you already have them recorded, but I'll work my way through them without too much delay.
Waiting for a clever signature line to occur to me.

Thanks for the offer, I'll add you and move us to Going Solo. The files will probably come in a batch but just take your time -, we'll understand.

First 11 are up. I need a unique tail to put on 12, so I'll do that tomorrow.

But, take YOUR time to do the DPL.

Story 1:

3:41
Repetition: “now you will” then “now you will listen to me”
You repeated it in two different tones of voice, but it should be “Now will you listen to reason?” in any case.
That’s the beginning of the paragraph.

44:20
You say “chapter five” instead of “chapter four.”
Right after “…and then thought no more.”

(I always put some kind of quote so you can find the place in text.)
Waiting for a clever signature line to occur to me.

Story 2
13:43
Text: “It wasn’t looking for them here.” Heard: “It was looking for them here.”

A little over six seconds silence at the end. Please trim a bit.
Waiting for a clever signature line to occur to me.

Cheers, VERLA
