Ok, they're yours! Note that these are sections 17 and 18. You'll use the section numbers in your file names rather than the chapter numbers.

Check out the first post in this project for instructions about what to say at the start and end of each recording, what to name the file, and how much silence to leave at the start and end of your recording. And remember to provide the length of each file when you submit it (the length provided by the Checker is generally the most precise).

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Welcome to Librivox, Thomas.

Before you start recording, please make and submit a 1-minute test recording (1-minute test info) to make sure your recording set up is ok. Post your test in the Forum appropriately named Post Your 1-Minute Test Recording Here and an experienced LVer will review it and provide feedback (and/or approve it).

This isn’t an audition, but just to make sure your technical specifications work for Librivox. It would be a shame to record a section then have to redo it because some simple setting is incorrect.

Once your test is approved, head back here and claim your section. I'll tentatively reserve Chapter 7 (Section 12) for you until January 23, pending that approval. When you return, please read the top of this thread carefully, as it contains all the instructions you'll need to submit your section.

I look forward to your first foray into reading for Librivox!

Thanks for the welcoming message.

I have a wonderful mic and I specifically came here because some time I was finding that the quality of some librivox recordings I was listening to, could be improved.

But ok, I'll do a test if you want me to.

Is the chapter 7 still available to read ? I've seen a post asking to read it.

I want to do my test on the start of the chapter I'll read to have your feedback on the actual text.

Hi Thomas,

The test is of your mic/recording program settings to make sure the results will meet Librivox standards:

Channel: Mono

Sample rate: 44100 Hz

Sample format: 16 bit

Export format: MP3

Export bit rate: 128 kbps Constant

Volume: between 86 and 92 dB (ideally around 89 - 90 dB)

There's more information about the 1-minute test here.

You could certainly use the start of this chapter instead of the recommended test text; I believe it will capture the same results. But you will have to post that file in the Post Your 1-Minute Test Recording Here forum. I'll look for it there, but someone else might beat me to it (an experienced volunteer checks the tests when they have a minute; sometimes that's me, but more often it's one of the others). But no matter who does it, I will be able to see the results.

Chapter 7 has not yet been claimed, but Section 7 has been claimed. Because some of the chapters are divided into parts, the section and chapter numbers don't coincide, which is a bit confusing. (Generally, readers put in their claims by section number.) You'll put that section number into the name of your file when you save it. If you look at the Magic Window (the list of chapters/sections on the first page of this post), you'll see a note at Section 12 saying I've reserved the section for you until January 23, pending approval of your 1-minute test.

Hi Kathy,

Could you please name your file as per the instructions near the end of the first post in this project, reupload it, and provide the length of the recording? It makes life much easier for our meta coordinator when it comes time to upload the book.
