Great! It will be nice to get some back story on the source of his authority since he sounds so authoritative!SteveGough wrote: ↑October 31st, 2023, 6:00 am Hi Christine

Section 10 is PL ok. This section was all that I had hoped for. Settembrini is pretty arrogant and it is interesting that Joachim, although presenting facial expressions, says not one word!

Thank you as always Christine. And so say I have a very soft spot for Joachim....

Hi Christine
Here is Section 11, at 20.06, which includes the Hofrat's worst rage and Joachim's finest hour....

Section 11. Oh the many and varied catagories of time! Also, I love a good tirade!
Optional edit:
2:40 should be "his year would be up in February"; I heard "his year would be up in September"
Looking forward to what's next. Will Hans really leave? Rhetorically asked since I want to find out within the book.
Thanks!
Christine

Hello Steve,
This note is mainly to encourage you to continue your protracted stay at this classic but -- let's face it -- spooky-bonkers historico-socio-political lunatic asylum.
(Truth in advertising: the above is quite a spin on the fact of the matter, viz., I popped in to find out when I'll have the pleasure of listening to this!)
Best, Kirsten

Thanks Kirsten - I smiled, though it is of course in these days grim smile. And also to say in my other capacity as a screenwriter I am currently developing with a US producer an adaptation of MM set in the near future where the sanatorium becomes a therapeutic unit for divers world leaders and public personalities who have become overhwlemed by trauma associated with world disorder and loss of truth.....

All we need now is 60+ million to make the film. (I will probably have long finished my audio MM by the time we get near that!!!)

Steve - BRAVISSIMO! But to save you the trouble of asking, let me decline any major part right up front. I don't identify with ANY of the women.
Keep it up!
