I really like the font that gord used originally -- and with a walkman-style hardback book in the picture it seems like it will be modern enough... my $.02 :)

Yes, that's what I was intending. Although I suppose that people who are blind and have the technological know how for downloading books and using iPods could probably find Librivox on their own, but it couldn't hurt could it?The problem I see with Braille signs is that it would only be a novelty... unless we directed this type of flyer directly to people who would/could actually benefit from them. hmmm....
I like this idea. Maybe just an index card sized notice to have available for distribution to various communities services for blind people. Nothing fancy, just letting people know what Librivox is. Although I sense Braille is becoming more obselete.Braille cards with our message on them are actually a good idea. If we can get folks at Division Of Blind Services to keep them handy, the word WILL get around to folks who use their facility.
I'll check out that link, Chip, and look into it some more.

can i make comments without offending?
I think from design perspective there needs to be a bit more white space, so I suggest:
-make "classic" smaller
-make image in middle smaller
-font of the writers in centre to be less computery? (by the way love that effect)
-the font change at the bottom is a bit jarring - though it has to be different. maybe if the "ListenUp/LV" text AND the mp3 text are all smaller.
-and I wonder if we need both "listen up" AND for the people by the people. those are 2 different slogans, I think we'd be better with one.
my 2 cents.
but great job.

I agree with on all Hugh's points, mostly. The font of the writers could be a serif font, that would take away some of the "computery" look. I think that Listen Up looks good, I think, at the size it is. You could perhaps shrink the www.librivox.org text a little to give more space. Oh yeah, and perhaps it would look better if the block of authors text were wrapped around the image, instead behind faded edges.hugh wrote:can i make comments without offending?

Gord, The Headphones and Book ROCK!
I always thought of a closed book, but i can see that like you put it is way way better.
more input...how would you like this way?

Hey cool! I like the graphic and the font very much. I think the text in the lower left corner is too wordy. If we could trim that down it's be a great poster.
Maybe just remove the last sentence -- our goal, etc.
"where books speak up!" -- love it!

I would also recommend not hyphanating chapter or audiofiles ... but that's probably more an issue of spaceing which can always be tricky...kayray wrote:Hey cool! and perhaps some actual words could appear on the pages of the book... maybe in a greyed out manner like the author names in the background of Gord's example... or not even real words, but some of that jibberish filler text?

It was more like meant as "Here be text".
About the hint of gray text: Personally i like the blank pages. Why? Its more like the idea of a book then - the emtpy form of a book - not a real physical book. Problem of course that the empty pages could tell a story on its own and people interprate the poster in weird ways.

Too bad we CAN?T do color. But i had to show you this.
Nah, the old sign is fine for now, and i recall we had a german television station called "vox" which had a red ball as their sign. Maybe even exactly like that. Too bad, it makes more sense for us.
