Section 22 PL Notes:
What a list of nouns you had to read!
  • 00:00 The volume of this track is 79.04dB. LV requires the overall volume for the track (measured by ReplayGain - you can try this tool if you want to check the volume) to be between 86-92dB (with 89dB being the ideal). The easiest way to fix this automatically is to use the 'Loudness Normalization' effect (set to -19LUFS) in recent versions of Audacity before exporting the track as an MP3. Another way to fix it would be to use the Amplify effect set to 10dB. Since the volume is so low, amplifying it sufficiently would increase the background noise a lot. Did you accidentally have the microphone slider lower than intended or were you further from the microphone than you should be?
  • 01:28 Repeat
  • 02:04 Repeat
  • 05:28 Repeat
  • 20:30 Long pause
  • 39:44 Repeat
  • 67:10 No outro
For fastest spot checks, you can copy these notes and change the timestamps to the new time so I know where to check.

Hello!

I have recorded Section 11; link below.

I have run it through 'Checker' and was notified that it passed the "chosen validation tests" which made me happy.

However, when I went back to listen to the entire section, I found (at least) 3 errors even though I "thought" I proof-listened to each track as I was recording!
Track 13: I left out three words "forms the green"
Track 14: I didn't say, 'end quote'
Track 21: I didn't say 'end quote' after 'marry'

Also, I am not sure if I am pronouncing "Dummelow" correctly in Track 24 (I looked high and low for a pronunciation online (finally went to Google translate) and even asked here, on the "Need Help..." theme to no avail.

All this to say, I am submitting, "as is" to get some feedback in general. I hope that's okay? Things like pace of reading, tone, etc.
Also, as I am completely new to reading books aloud as well as the Audacity software, I still need to figure out some technical aspects, like re-recording a track and how to set a consistent amount of time between each track.

Here is the link: https://librivox.org/uploads/mightyfelix/hes_vol6_sec11.mp3

Thanks again. I welcome all feedback and technical help.

Welcome to Librivox, Daisy (again)!
It would be great to have you record section 6 for this project (Home Education). It looks like you've just passed your 1 minute test recording which means you are ready to go. Don't forget in all future recordings to make any changes that were suggested when you did the test recording (eg: if you needed to amplify, you'll need to do that for every section you submit).

In order to assign a section to you in the Magic Window (MW) of this project, I've entered you into the database of readers. Your reader page is accessible here and a list of your assigned sections is here (you might want to bookmark it). LV readers appear under both their forum username and their 'catalog name' - at the moment both are your forum username. Here's an example of what it would look like if you choose something different. Some people use their real name, a pseudonym or just a repeat of their forum username. You might prefer privacy or to use it as an opportunity to advertise yourself as a narrator. You can change your catalog name by posting a thread in this forum and an admin will help you out. Your claim is confirmed - you have two months to submit it. Looking forward to hearing your section and have you help out with this project!

Some common questions that new readers ask:
  • Footnotes: They are optional. You can read all, some or none. An easy way to mark them is to say 'footnote' then read the footnote then say 'end footnote'.
  • Quotes: You can mark these by saying 'quote' then reading the quote and then saying 'end quote'. You can decide whether to say quote at all - sometimes it will be clear from context. I'd suggest saying it if the quotation spans multiple sentences.
  • Non-English phrases: We do have to read them. You could 1) pronounce it however you want 2) post in this thread and ask for someone to record it for you so you can either mimic it or splice it into your own recording 3) try Forvo for individual words or the sound icon on Google Translate for a text to speech version to copy.
  • Roman numerals: Read these as their corresponding number.
  • Abbreviations: You can choose to expand these or not to. You could say 'e.g' or 'for example'.
  • Heading numbering: Sometimes books use roman numerals and digits for two different levels of headings. I think a good solution to this is to say 'first, second' etc. for roman numeral headings (I, II etc.) and 'one, two' etc. for digit headings (1, 2 etc.).

Chapter 6. There's a direct link to the text in the Magic Window.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'track 21' etc. If you know that there are missing phrases, you can add them in after the event. Are you familiar with the editing process?

It was well read :)

Section 11 PL Notes:
  • 00:00 The filename is not correct for this section. It should be cm6_11_mason_128kb.mp3 instead of hes_vol6_sec11.mp3. Please use the correct filename when you reupload!
  • 00:01 Max 1 second of silence at the start of the track please!
  • 26:22 We need 5 exactly seconds of silence at the end of the track (as close as you can make it).
