18:06 - "...social law of imitation already known" - "known" is cut off

21:40 - "The first arises naturally from what... namely," (Missing some text here)

21:54 - "resumption of normal soc---" cut off

Hi, I’d love to read sections 12 and 13, Chapter 8 first and second halves. But there are tables in there and I’ve never done one of those before, please advise, how do I read the table for this recording?

Great! I'll put you in.

Tables with two columns are pretty easy to read:

Code: Select all

Bank Clearings
1910 $95,855,319
1911 87,994,043
"Bank clearings. 1910, 95 million, 855 thousand, 319 dollars. 1911, 87 million, 994 thousand, 43 dollars..."

There's a 3-column table:

Code: Select all

Additional Indices
Gross Postal Revenue Tramway Receipts (gross)
1910 $114,318 $477,109
1911 119,561 502,399
"Additional Indices. 1910: Gross postal revenue, 114 thousand, 318 dollars. Tramway receipts, gross: 477 thousand, 109 dollars. 1911: Postal revenue 119 thousand 561 dollars, tramway receipts 502 thousand 399 dollars." (After the first reading of the column header, you can leave off "gross" and just use "postal revenue" and "tramway receipts". You could probably also cut it down to just "postal" and "tramway" after the first couple rows.)

Similar strategy for the election table:

Code: Select all

Political Action
Year Purpose Eligible voters No. voting Percentage of Indifference Percentage of Interest
1918 For Mayor 7,632 2,769 63.8 36.2
"Political Action: Year, 1918. Purpose: for mayor. Eligible voters: 7632. Number voting: 2769. Percentage of indifference: 63.8. Percentage of interest: 36.2 Year, 1919..."

Holler if you have any other questions. :)

I'll take Chapter 6, please. Might as well complete the trilogy.

Did you make edits to the original file or re-record? The reason I ask is that the first edit is 10 seconds after the time stamp. (I used Windows Media Player to get the first time stamp and VLC Media Player now, so it could just be a weird discrepancy between the two, but I want to be sure. If you've redone the beginning, I'll need to listen to it again.)

Moving on to the other edits to check them...

12:25 - "all were rendered uninhabitable for some time" - "time" is cut off. This is still cut off; time stamp now 12:29

18:06 - "...social law of imitation already known" - "known" is cut off Still cut off, now at 18:11

21:40 - "The first arises naturally from what... namely," (Missing some text here) still missing, now at 21:46-ish

21:54 - "resumption of normal soc---" cut off still cut off, now at 21:59

Ugh... Okay, okay. New plan. I will rerecord the entire thing. And I'll make sure I have it correct.

And I actually made edits to the original. I think what happened was the truncating silence took little snippets out because they were technically quieter than the rest. I will rerecord the whole thing and try again. It was not a weird discrepancy on your end. I re-edited it, thinking that would solve it. I was wrong. Again, apologies.

No need to re-record the whole thing! You gave an acceptable explanation. 8-) You can just redo the parts with cut-off words (re-record the sentence or phrase, to make editing it in easier).

Was 12:29 - is now 12:27-12:30. I had to put in the full audio from my second pass for this.
Was 18:11 - is now 18:09-18:13. This one, as it turns out, was not known, but noticed. That is on me.
Was 21:40 - is now 21:45-21:48. This was easy. Just had to put in my newer recording.
was 21:59-ish - is now 21:57-22:00-ish. Another easy one. Just put in the newer recording.

I have also given it loudness normalization, so we shouldn't have any more problems, and I can finally move on to the other chapters. Thank you for being so patient with me.
