Section 1 is PL OK!
Thanks for your contribution!
  • 00:00 Note (no change needed): The volume of this track is 86.78dB. LV requires the overall volume for the track (measured by ReplayGain - you can try this tool if you want to check the volume) to be between 86-92dB (with 89dB being the ideal). The file falls within the outer ends of that range and so doesn't need to be changed but it's worth being careful about this. The easiest way to automatically set the volume is to use the 'Loudness Normalization' effect (set to -19LUFS) in recent versions of Audacity before exporting the track as an MP3. Another way would be to use the Amplify effect set to 2dB.
  • 00:00 Note (no change needed): The filename is not correct for this section. It should be cm6_01_mason_128kb.mp3 instead of cm6_1_mason_128kb.mp3

Hi Victoria,

Thanks for your contribution! You have a nice clear voice.

I think some things might have gone wrong with this section - I hope my comments won't be a discouragement to you. It takes a while to get the hang of stuff at Librivox!
  • I think you've read the wrong section. I'm hearing this page but you've claimed the bottom of this page.
  • The filname has been uploaded as cm6_03_mason_128kb instead of cm6_20_mason_128kb. It's important to be careful about this because it would have overwritten someone else's file if it had been already submitted.
  • We need at least 0.5 second of silence at the start of the file.
  • It sounded like you were very close to your microphone. This can lead to noises from bumping it or loud breathing. About 6 inches from the microphone is a good distance. This caused some clipping in the file.
I think you'll have to re-record this section with the correct text and a bit further from the microphone. Let me know what you've uploaded it - I look forward to listening!

I will fix that. I was looking at the page number that is in the little black box. I thought I had to name it as the section. I will fix that. Oh, thanks for letting me know.

Welcome to Librivox, Jnairz!
It would be great to have you record section 10 for this project (Home Education). It looks like you've just passed your 1 minute test recording which means you are ready to go. Don't forget in all future recordings to make any changes that were suggested when you did the test recording (eg: if you needed to amplify, you'll need to do that for every section you submit).

In order to assign a section to you in the Magic Window (MW) of this project, I've entered you into the database of readers. Your reader page is accessible here and a list of your assigned sections is here (you might want to bookmark it). LV readers appear under both their forum username and their 'display name' - at the moment both are your forum username. Here's an example of what it would look like if you choose something different. Some people use their real name, a pseudonym or just a repeat of their forum username. You might prefer privacy or to use it as an opportunity to advertise yourself as a narrator. You can change your display name by posting a thread in this forum and an admin will help you out. Your claim is confirmed - you have two months to submit it. Looking forward to hearing your section and have you help out with this project!
