Yep, these things do fill up quickly. But anyone who missed getting one shouldn't lose heart - there are 284 of these things and they'll fill up 12 volumes. Since we're only on the second volume, there's still plenty of opportunity left to snag a few!

Well, here are my four. I think the sound quality is pretty good (but that's because I'm using a really good microphone) but my reading skills are pretty rusty. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Your first recording started out a bit fast, but you seemed to gain a bit more comfort with recording and slow down. Very nice readings!

These are my first recordings for LibriVox and I guess I felt a little intimidated. Which is silly, I know, but I really appreciate what everyone does here and I wanted to make something that was worthy of being added to the collection. I did get more comfortable as I redid some items and played around with the files. I'm really looking forward to doing more.

You know nothing of the kind, Andy. I worked in Broadcast for many years and the first time you crack the mic at a new place is ALWAYS a "moment of truth". Don't sweat it; we all got a bit nervous that first time, and I include myself in that number.

Having gotten that bit of advice out of the way, let me say that you've laid down some excellent recordings! As kri said, you were a bit quick on the first one, but settled in nicely in the next ones. You might want to make your outro a bit briefer, but that's more a matter of personal taste than of policy.

Thanks a lot for sending these; I'm looking forward to hearing a lot more from you soon!

A modem is a torture device that emits a high-pitched squawking noise and prevents you from downloading/uploading things as fast as you'd like.

Amen to that, Kara! Everyone's amazed that, since I am a Professional Computer Geek after all, that I don't have a high-speed line. But I live so far out in the woods that I'm lucky to be able to get electric and phone service. There's no cable out here, so I can't get broadband that way. I was hopeful when DSL became available until I learned one discouraging fact:

You have to be within 12,000 (or maybe 15,000) feet of the telephone company's Central Office in order for it to work. I live 83,265 feet away... sigh.

Now there's a new thing offered by Verizon called FiOS which I believe would work out here. Unfortunately it requires a year's contract, and since I'm in the process of selling my house and moving to another state, I can't take advantage of it just now.

Can't wait to move!

I sent the three I signed up for via Yousendit. Did you get them, I noticed that you had accidently deleted some of the other ones you had received, was mine one of them?

Its okay if they were, I have them here on my computer ready to send again. If they need to be recorded over, just let me know and I will do it right away.

Thanks Desdemona! If you just sent them, then I haven't picked them up yet. They arrived at my home email and I'm still at work; I'll find them there in about four or five more hours. But thanks for the heads-up - I'm a lot less likely to delete them by accident since I know they're there waiting for me!
