Amen to that, Kara! Everyone's amazed that, since I am a Professional Computer Geek after all, that I don't have a high-speed line. But I live so far out in the woods that I'm lucky to be able to get electric and phone service. There's no cable out here, so I can't get broadband that way. I was hopeful when DSL became available until I learned one discouraging fact:
You have to be within 12,000 (or maybe 15,000) feet of the telephone company's Central Office in order for it to work. I live 83,265 feet away... sigh.
Now there's a new thing offered by Verizon called
FiOS which I believe would work out here. Unfortunately it requires a year's contract, and since I'm in the process of selling my house and moving to another state, I can't take advantage of it just now.
Can't wait to move!
