Yes, each chapter should be a separate file (mp3), which you should upload following the directions directly below the magic window on the first page. Please include your voice credit in the first file in which you submit ("Aunt Janet read by... [whatever name you want to use]"). After that you don't need to include a voice credit. Your files will be named:

storygirl_auntjanet_01_128kb.mp3 (for chapter 1)
storygirl_auntjanet_06_128kb.mp3 (for chapter 6), etc.

And when you upload into TriciaG's file, using the Librivox uploader (number 8 of the instructions on page 1), your links will look like this:

As in all Librivox recordings, the bitrate of your recording should be 128 kbps and the recording should have a constant bitrate.
The volume should fall inside the target range of 86-92 dB.

Noise cleaning is also a must -- I do it automatically with every recording, just to get rid of the background noise every computer makes.
With Audacity, I use the following noise cleaning settings (and I've found them to work well):
Noise Reduction (dB): 12 dB
Sensitivity: 6.00
Frequency Smoothing (bands): 3

A setting of 12 is a moderate setting (to use if you have moderate noise) - it doesn't cut out all the background noise, but you also don't get a strange echo in your voice.

I'm so excited we finally have a Dan on board! And I love your characterization of Dan -- you're going to be a great addition to our cast!

There are a couple of problems with your recording settings.

The bitrate should be 128 kbps and the recording should have a constant bitrate rather than a variable bitrate (VBR) - your recording is 125kbps (variable).

Librivox Checker 0.96 says the background noise is too high (Background noise = 46.7 dB -- mine is usually about 24 dB). Did you noise clean?

I use the following noise cleaning settings (and I've found them to work well):

I have one additional request: Could I get you to say "Dan King read by Diego Tablett" in your next file (it could be in chapter 2, if you want). Some of the kids said the last name of their character and some didn't, and I haven't decided yet, but I'm collecting the full character name credits just in case...

Other than that, your text itself was perfect and your acting was fantastic!

Neil talked on and on, and of course he soon began to tell things it would have been much wiser not to tell. Finally he told Donald that he was going over the bay to ask Nancy Sherman that very night to marry him. And if she would have him, then Donald and all the folks should see a wedding that WAS a wedding.

Your settings are now correct -- yay! Your recordings are still a bit to quiet (Chapter 1 is 81.4 dB and we want 86-92)-- for future chapters, it might be useful to raise the volume of your microphone before you are record. For these 2 recordings, though, you don't need to change anything, I can adjust the volume when I edit them into the master file. But for future recordings, the sound quality will be a bit better if you change your recording settings (rather than raising the volume so much afterwards).

Your volume for Chapter 4, however, was closer to our aim (85.2), so you only need to raise the microphone volume slightly (but again, no need to change anything on this file) -- also it should have been named "storygirl_dan_04_128kb.mp3" because it was chapter 4 and not chapter 2, but no worries there because Dan is not in chapter 2. Just be careful when you name your future files.

Dan Chapters 1 & 4 are PL OK! Nice work!
