An archaic usage, I wouldn't know what it means without you telling me. Thanks.

Archaic,
eh? (chuckle) Well that takes me back a ways. I seem to remember it being in current usage when I was a boy, so long, long, long ago...

What a chapter! Escaping the Black Death, we get instruction on how to conduct a Baluchi raiding party, examine the anatomical structure of scorpions, and sing the praises of Alexander the Great...It must get rather boring out there, riding on a camel across Asia! :D

Section 7, Eastern Turkistan (1895)

The author's criminal neglect to refill the water cisterns costs the lives of two men in the waterless Taklamakan. Not his finest moment.

Section 1 - PL OK!

The description of the bazaar was simply superb! This Sven Hedin has a very flowery and... well, how to describe it properly... romantic and dreamy writing style, I like it. Enjoyed the first chapter immensely!

Thanks, Kristine. I well remembering wandering through the bazaar in Tunis, Tunisia some years ago. Lots of interesting merchandise and everybody, but everybody, exhorts one (in multiple languages!) to stop and haggle. Great fun, but one had best not be in any hurry to leave!

I was in Jerusalem four years back - maybe not the full experience of the bazaar, but something close I suppose. Was even a bit too much for me, being a cold and reserved northerner.
