Thanks, Kristin. I'd never noticed it before, so I assume it was on by default. Everything I've done for LV has been done with it, but if I can get better quality by dumping it, I will. I'll test it next time I record something.

You said you're using USB so it may not effect you. I was using a non-USB when I had it turned on. I've not actually tested it with a USB, I'm just theorizing based on the fact that very few settings seem to effect a USB mic.

Yeah, adjusting the microphone volume in windows will work with a USB mic as well. I've done it :)

I tried that and it seems you're right, so I guess I do have a built-in mic.

Well, I sent my mic to a friend so that he can test it in his computer and I'm just waiting for the feedback.

I don't know, but I'm suspecting I'm not going to be able to avoid carrying my heavy computer to the store to figure out what's wrong... and it's just soo heavy... :(

Ok there is an anomoly in Audacity that I just noticed today. I was finishing a recording that was mostly done at another time and the wave length was tiny compared to the previous one. I was checking the settings and...... it turned out that my volume control on the systray (controls the sound volume coming out of the speakers) was turned down. Somehow this affected the volume going in as well.

When I turned this volume control up, the input of the mic increased too! Will wonders never cease? I learned something new today.

New updates: it turns out the microphones were the problem, so I went and bought new ones. And with them I have new problems, now.

This time I can hear my voice just fine, but I also hear a continuous sound that drives me insane. I went to control panel and made some adjustments, but nothing worked. What else can I do and where should I go?

Can you post a sample here? Without hearing it, it is difficult to know what to do.

I'll try (it's been a while). I use Yousendit. What Recipient email address should I use? Or isn´t it necessary?

 Why didn't I think of that?

Here it is: http://download.yousendit.com/AA2BC175677F582A

Since the other wasn't saved as a mp3 file I saved another one, in mp3:

I hope this will do.

Maybe it will work later... I'll just keep trying to figure out what's wrong this time.

Do you have a USB mic? Line-in mics usually pick up a lot of computer noise, so we recommend USB.

OK I got it now. Is it a USB mic? Is there any other USB device plugged in near it ie the slot next to it?

I had this happen when I had my webcam plugged into the slot right next to my mic. Try unplugging any other equipment and recording. My webcam created interferance much like what yours sounds like.
