Hi Timothy,

I'm not sure if this fits the bill, but it is a project I BCed that has an Australian author.
Twentieth Century Inventions:a Forecast by George Sutherland.

Best wishes!

In the mind, or consciousness of the Earth this flower first lay latent as a dream. Perhaps, in her consciousness, it nested as that which in us corresponds to a little thought.--A.Blackwood

I'm quite sure one of the main characters goes to Australia and back, and when he disappears every one assumes he's been going down under again.

Ta! I'll be glad to use it!

I've started listening to Aussie books in preparation... Shadow of the Rope is good, but Songs of a Sentimental Bloke is great. I've asked Algy to pull two of the poems out for next year, for Valentine's Day and Father's Day.

Might be a bit too vague, but in The Mysterious Island, by Jules Verne the backstory of Ayrton involves him spending time is Australia. Also the island has several pieces of vegetation that are described as Australian.
So little space, so much to say.

Hmmm. I didn't see Australia Felix listed. Did I miss it?

Great reader, but I found the start of the slow descent into mental illness quite troubling.

No, it has been finished since I made the list. Thank you for pointing it out! 8)

Title: A Bride from the Bush
Author: E. W. (Ernest William) Hornung (7 June 1866 – 22 March 1921),
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/38388/38388-h/38388-h.htm

I've just been browsing the list of newly completed titles over in Distributed Proofreaders and discovered this.
Any use to you? :hmm:

Carol

ETA - It's 256 pages long, by the way!

Hi Tim,

Just discovered this project. Have you got all the readings/readers you need?

I've been a bit quiet with this, but still plan to go ahead with it. Basically my day job has been busy, Linda and I are preparing for the birth of our first child, and I had some books I needed to finish writing before the sleeplessness that's to come. 8)

To make this easier for me to manage, I've arranged for this to be rolled into some stuff I do at work (I'm a public librarian). I did set up a blog for this and make a few posts, but they didn't seem to be catching views. By adding them in as a column on my work's page, I know they'll have a least a few hundred followers, and some of the maintenance tasks will be handled by other staff.

So, it will relaunch on 9 March, which is Read Aloud Day. It will be hosted on Book coasters (http://gcbooks.wordpress.com/) which is my work blog (not representing my employer on this forum, sorry for the legalese). On the blog where the current Big Reading Challenge icon is, there will instead be an icon called "Aussie Voices", which is what I'll be calling this now. The first post will be Algy Pug's rendition of The Play by CJ Dennis, which will go live on 23 March.

The trade off is that I need to spruik library resources as well, so there will be links to the GCCC catalog, and to Bolinda audiobooks, in some of the posts. On the up side I'll be presenting some technology training workshops on podcasting, so it might get us some more Librivoxers.

I was trying to keep this separate from my work, but I underestimated the amount of preparation this whole fatherhood thing would take. 8)
