It's really right there on the knife-edge of recoverability and if you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate it if you could redo it a bit louder now that you've figured out how. Those waveforms should bounce nicely and fill up the screen - not barely peak over the centerline.
Your second one is downloading now - ah, there! It just finished.
Oh yes, that one's MUCH better! If you could redo The Wild Boar And The Fox one more time, I'd really appreciate it.
Also please let us know how you'd like to be credited - name and URL
Thanks for joining LibriVox - it's great to hear fresh voices in the mix!
Okie dokie - I'll redo The Wild Boar And The Fox - no problem.
any other feedback re Mercury & Tradesmen? It'd be my first one ... anxious that it's okay.
as for credit - I don't have a url, but I do have a name ... Geetu Melwani.

Thanks, Chip. I think I will have alot of fun with these. I claimed a couple of chapters in Black Beauty, but thought I should probably do some of these first. I'm planning on doing the weekly poetry, as well. My husband said that he would set everything up for me tomorrow, so hopefully, I should be able to e-mail them to you either tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.

Oh it was very nice - good pacing and phrasing and all in all a very enjoyable piece to listen to. Your voice is really lovely. Actually your original piece was also quite good - the only problem was that I could barely hear it! Thanks for giving it another shot, Geetu!

That'll be just fine, pattimac. Take your time and have fun with them! They each only take a couple of minutes to produce.
If you do email them to me, PLEASE put the word LibriVox in the subject line so I don't mistake it for one of ths scores of spam that I receive each and every day...

Thanks Chip!
One nice thing about these fables is how short they are, so it takes so little time to do each.
Oh yes, that version is much clearer - thanks a LOT for redoing it!
Frankly I think that your reading style is spot-on as it stands. Don't worry about trying to improve it; you're already where you should be.
As far as the technical aspect goes, the best advice I can give you is to get that microphone a bit closer to your mouth. Idealy it should be placed just above and to one side of the lips, about an inch away. This is why boom mics are so popular in this business - they keep the mic in exactly the same position no matter how your head turns. Keeping the mic that close will make the whole recording a lot louder without your having to fiddle with any of the controls. Keeping it just above and to one side of your lips will eliminate most of the popping breath sounds.
There's a relatively cheap yet good boom mic made by Logitech for the Sony PS2 gaming system. Because it's a USB mic, it'll plug right into your computer without any trouble. It's even got its own thread: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=663

I already have a nice mike - bought specifically for LibriVox - it's also a Logitech: This One ...brand new, ripped the packaging just this morning!
and I think it works well - I was sitting too "far" based on your advice - about 4-6 inches .. next time, I'll "cosy-up" to the mike!
Wow, I sure can't fault your enthusiasm, whalesong - welcome to LibriVox!
Very nice recordings; I hope to hear your voice on many other LibriVox productions soon. Just one thing - could you please let me know how you'd like to be credited on the catalog page? Thanks!
