I would like to say to people - just resolve to try and do something about it rather than make your family suffer. my father had hearing loss all my life , and in the end as a child I just gave up telling him things - it wasn't worth the effort - too soft he didn't hear , to loud he was angry because I was shouting - and I resolved I would have my hearing tested regularly and would get a hearing aid early so as to get used to wearing it. Now I am older and understand him better I am sorry for all he and I missed over the years , so please when you catch yourself saying - talk clearly , stop mumbling or any of those type of things , do something about it, deafness is very isolating.

I was joking, but having worked in the Care system for some years I recognize the mutual frustration that hearing loss can cause - and the importance of maintaining dignity and clarity for each person and their needs.

Old timey Christmas ads. http://www.vintag.es/2012/12/vintage-christmas-ads-from-1940s-1980s.html
I love the ones for cigarettes and guns! Who would give either for Christmas?!

Ha! I would NOT be happy to get an ironing board or (heaven forbid) a bathroom scale. I'd take either of those retro-cool toasters in a heartbeat, though. Also the Atari.

Oh come on, Hazel, don't Canadians give their kids Red Ryder BB guns for Christmas? :) (No, me neither.)

I can understand cigars for the affectionado...

Ironing boards? vacuums? Toasters?

And the scales... I'd call that "suicide" for the giver...

Ummm ... that would be me. I gave myself a pistol a couple of years in a row, just like the Colt ad suggests. Also guilty of giving and receiving cigarettes many years ago.

[sarcasm]Laurie Anne, your an idiot for believing that![/sarcasm]

Which is to say, I agree.
Between being a full-time college student and working 20+ hours per week, I'm not able to be involved at LV these days, but I remain a loyal fan and look forward to a triumphant return sometime in the (probably distant) future.

Based on a careful but admittedly unscientific count consisting of samples taken at different times and on different days, the phrase is tweeted on average 25 times per hour. So approximately 600 times each day, 18,000 times a month, and 216,000 times a year someone on Twitter tells someone else on Twitter “Your an idiot!”

That is sad, but it does not surprise me.
Interesting article, thanks for sharing!
