History of the Kings of Britain by Geoffrey of Monmouth (1100 - 1155). Translated by J. A. Giles (1808 - 1884) and others

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/history-of-the-kings-of-britain-by-geoffrey-of-monmouth/
More medieval romance than history, Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae represents the oldest versions we have of many enduring legends of Britain, populated by such characters as Leir, Cymbeline, Uther and Arthur Pendragon and Cadwallader. This is Giles' 1848 revision of Thompson's 1718 edition. ( SkyRider)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://books.google.ca/books?id=FUoMAAAAIAAJ
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: kd - KiltedDragon
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

    Any questions?
    • I've tinkered with the intros and outros a little to represent the translators in the order they're cited on the manuscript and to change "chapter x" to "book x part x" - there are twelve books each of which I was envisaging dividing into two parts. Are my versions still acceptable?

Yes, the intros and outros are acceptable as you've worded them.

Wikisource throws a Creative Commons license on their texts, and thus make them not usable for us. Would you be willing to read from the scan here? http://books.google.ca/books?id=FUoMAAAAIAAJ

Sorry - I should have spotted that. I've no problem reading from the scans - in fact my last read was plagued with proofreading errors so there's part of me that will be quite glad of having the orginal image to hand! It's a slightly different (and far shorter!) introduction in the Google Books edition but I guess people's interest would be in the main text anyway.

Great! Feel free to change the link in your first post.

I'm going to not snatch this up as MC just yet - I'll let others have the opportunity. But if it's not started by Saturday, I'll MC it for you. You can probably start recording if you like, since the intros and all that is worked out. Then you can upload them when you have an MC.

Hi Dave...

Section 2 now up and waiting for you:
https://librivox.org/uploads/kilteddragon/kingsofbritain_02_monmouth_128kb.mp3
36m02s
33Mb

The combination of a quiet weekend and a very short third section might mean you have a shorter wait for the next part...

Cheers,
Paul
