The Food of the Gods, and How It Came to Earth by H. G. Wells (1866 - 1946).

This project is now complete. All files are available at https://librivox.org/the-food-of-the-gods-and-how-it-came-to-earth-version-2-by-h-g-wells/

Mr. Bensington and Professor Redwood have invented a substance that causes living things to grow - and grow - and grow! As their experiments progress, the substance quickly gets out of control and the fun begins as insects and plants receive the benefit of the Food of the Gods. Surely nobody would dream of feeding such a thing to a human child… would they?

In this little-known science fiction satire, Wells takes potshots at every member of society: scientists, ministers, charitable heiresses, revolutionaries, and everyone in between. Yet in the end, Wells shows his faith both in humanity and its never-ceasing progress. ( Catharine Eastman)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello, whoever picks this up!

As I was filling out the form (first time I've ever seen that - it's pretty neat!), I changed a genre from Humorous Fiction to Fantastic Fiction/Science Fiction. The generated post had the original genre in it though, so I'm not convinced the catalog record is correct, but I'm not sure how get back into it to check.

I took the liberty of shortening my filenames if that's okay. If not, they can be put back and I'll just deal with long filenames. :)

I'm guessing this will be ~25 sections? but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Like a lot of other Wells works, it's multiple "books", each with multiple chapters, each of which has multiple sections, and I'm not yet sure what will go into each recorded section. Is that all right?

Thanks so much! I'm looking forward to doing this, and I already have Chapter 1 of Book 1 ready to submit!

I'll set it up. It's not PD for the EU countries so the pool is smaller
THe template isn't perfect , but we can't fix it at the moment -
In the new system the number of sections is much more flexible

It's set up
To edit the MW you need to do the following
https://docs.google.com/a/librivox.org/file/d/0BxWB83bbALTQYjlENGZ0SVJUWWs/edit

Once that is done it is easy in future
If you have trouble - it may be because your email has chnged from the one it thinks you have

Question: Do I have to put myself in as reader for every section in the MW? Things have changed since I last started a project...

Hello Catherine

A couple of things that are changed - we do not need the section number in the MW field any more - it is addedd automatically
There is at last a way for PLers tohave a "PL page" - so if you change the status in the MW sections to "ready for PL" it shows up in their page so there is less chance of it being overlooked
THe filenames need to include 128kb - otherwise Archive decides they are VBR files
Not a problem at present as we still have files that were submitted before the changeover so there is a temporay fix , but will become some time

Woops! My bad, I hadn't even noticed the filename format change. Would you be willing to fix the filenames in the Uploader, or would you like for me to rename and re-upload the files?

And I'll quit putting the section numbers in. (Again, would you like me to fix the files that are there already, or just make sure the new ones don't have numbers?)

Thanks for your help,
Catharine

It's OK , I will fix them - just thought you needed to know for the future. I'm not used to them myself else I would have noticed quicker. I'll leave the file names until they have all been PLed etc
