The Mason-bees by Jean-Henri Fabre (1823 - 1915). Translated by Alexander Teixeira de Mattos (1865 - 1921)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-mason-bees-by-jean-henri-fabre/

This is more than a book about bees and their lives; the author talks about his cats, red ants,
and insect psychology in general. Jean Henri Fabre also made waves in his native 19th Century
France by insisting that girls be included in his science classes, so I dedicate this recording to
certain young women who risk their lives or even the less important attentions of boys simply to
learn. ( BellonaTimes)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2884
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

There must be something wrong with the software. I know that I saved the file at midpoint of editing to feed my cat, then came back and finished the rest. I'll listen to it again then, that is really weird.

Meantime, the translator's note and Ch 3 are in the MW. Thanks.

0, 3 PL OK. I had a reader once send me their original unedited file by mistake. I learned a few new words that day!

thank you. Chapter four is in the MW. It's a long one, with interesting experiments inspired by Charles Darwin, whom he respected but perhaps didn't accept his famous theory.

5 is up, but I don't plan on testing the 'swinging bag' theory on my own kitty. ;)
