In reference to Ruth's post here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47341
This is a list of short works that could be recorded by LibriVox. They're all under 200k in size, so you should be able to record them in 80 minutes or less. Most would fit well on one of the Non-Fiction Short Works collections, and a few could be solo projects, like Poems by a Little Girl.

A Guide to the Best Historical Novels and Tales by Jonathan Nield. 142k
A Primary Reader by E. Louise Smythe. 67kb
All for Love; Or, The World Well Lost: A Tragedy] by John Dryden. 190k in progress: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=63455
An Inquiry Into the Obligations of Christians by William Carey. 116 kB
Books and Bookmen by Ian Maclaren. 68 kB RuthieG will do
Days with Sir Roger De Coverley by Joseph Addison and Sir Richard Steele. 80 kB
Essays of Elia and the Last Essays of Elia by Charles Lamb. Masque 31 kB
Home Geography for Primary Grades by C. C. Long. 116 kB
Poems By a Little Girl by Hilda Conkling. 88 kB
The Harwich Naval Forces by E. F. Knight. 175 kB
The Inspector General by Nikolai Gogol. 187 kB
The Life and Death of Cormac the Skald 121 kB
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/265
The Pursuit of God by A. W. Tozer. 178 kB In the catalog
William Harvey and the Discovery of the Circulation of the Blood by Thomas H Huxley. 64 kB RuthieG will do

These are the the works that are under 500kb; they may take two or three hours to record, which would make them good candidates for first solos, or first BC projects for newbies.

A Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland by Samuel Johnson. 341k
Discourses on Satire and on Epic Poetry by John Dryden. 362 kB
Great Britain and Her Queen by Anne E. Keeling. 341 kB
Isaac Bickerstaff, Physician and Astrologer, by Sir Richard Steele. 261 kB
Lad: A Dog by Albert Payson Terhune. 472 kB Recording in progress: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=47006
London to Land's End by Daniel Defoe. 245 kB RuthieG will do
More English Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs. 345 kB
More Hunting Wasps by J. Henri Fabre. 463 kB
Napoleon Bonaparte by John S. C. Abbott. 314 kB
On the Art of Writing by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch. 396 kB
Pioneers of the Old South: A Chronicle by Mary Johnston. 310 kB
Sesame and Lilies by John Ruskin. 279 kB
The Battle of the Books by Jonathan Swift. 246 kB
The Book of Missionary Heroes by Basil Mathews. 388 kB
The Boys' Life of Abraham Lincoln by Helen Nicolay. 337 kB
The Coverley Papers, From 'The Spectator' by Addison, Budgell, and Steele. 352 kB
The Discovery of Muscovy etc. by Richard Hakluyt. 229 kB
The History of King Charles II of England by Jacob Abbott. 337 kB
The Life of Christopher Columbus by Edward Everett Hale. 333 kB
The Life of Christopher Columbus by Edward Everett Hale. 333 kB
The Mason-Bees by J. Henri Fabre. 375 kB Recording in progress: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=48984
Theodore Roosevelt's Letters to His Children by Roosevelt, ed. Joseph Bucklin Bishop. 248 kB
Wild Animals I Have Known by Ernest Thompson Seton. 295 kB

All of the links are on the LibriVox wiki for Ambleside http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Recordings_of_Books_on_the_Ambleside_List
except the one to The Life and Death of Cormac the Skald, which didn't work for me for some reason -- it has a different name on the wiki.

Thank you, BT. I took the liberty of editing your post to lay claim to a couple. Well, why have magic powers if you don't use them occasionally? ;)

I may solo on one of the Fabre bug books. There was an intriguing katydid in the garage yesterday morning... 8-) This fellow, I believe:

The Mason-Bees by J. Henri Fabre. 375 kB
now on the Launch Pad :)

He's a good writer, surprised more of his work hasn't been recorded.

Hi Ruth,

I'll do The Boy's Life of Lincoln. Should I post the template on the New Projects forum?

Thanks
Tom

Oh, yes please. Just treat it as any LV project. It's 50 odd thousand words, so will make a nice shortish solo. :)

Perhaps someone with editing powers will update the original post to include these completed projects/links to texts. If a text has been recorded, I included the LV link; if it hasn't, I include the link to the Project Gutenberg or Internet Archive text (Project Gutenberg preferred). Thought this might be useful to include the info here in case someone is looking for something to record but isn't familiar with the Ambleside wiki (I wasn't!)...

A Guide to the Best Historical Novels and Tales - http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1359
(Note: Not sure how effective an audiobook this would be, as it's basically a list of novels set in different historical eras, but could be a good resource for anyone looking for novels to record!)
