Hi, acbowgus--I listened to your recording this evening. Great story, and you have a wonderful voice, very expressive! I have a few notes for you--

Section 12 (Hypnos):
--At ~5:44 the text shows "...its burning eyes..." but I hear something like "...its o-nering eyes..."
--This paragraph "Midwinter evenings seemed least dreadful to him. Only after two years did I connect this fear with anything in particular; but then I began to see that he must be looking at a special spot on the celestial vault whose position at different times corresponded to the direction of his glance-a spot roughly marked by the constellation Corona Borealis." is recorded once at ~10:39 and then repeated at ~11:29 after an intervening paragraph.
--At ~11:51 the paragraph beginning and through "Then came one January of fog and rain/.../spheres forbidden, unimagined, and hideously remote." is omitted in its entirety.
--There are a couple of spots that have 5-6 second silences--like at ~4:18, ~12:47. If the silences are too lengthy, it can be confusing for the listener. You might want to trim a bit of the silence out.
--Also, you've got 12 seconds of silence on the end of the track, but we want only 5 seconds of ending silence if the length of the recording is less than 30 minutes.

Finally, for future use in your recording here: You have quite a large variation in the volume throughout the track--some clipping in the loudest parts, but very quiet in other parts. Sometimes it is helpful in those situations to use the Compressor effect in Audacity. It reduces those spikes in volume so that you can then amplify the track if needed. One of our members has made a short, helpful video about using Compressor here Some Parts of My Recording are TOO LOUD and Others Too Soft if you want to check it out.

After you have made the corrections, upload the file again using the same file name, and then post the link here along with the new length of the recording. I'll take another quick look at it. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you run into any problems--we'll be happy to help! :)
Kind regards,
Lucretia

Sorry I left such a mess for you to listen to. Editing multiple files, i got confused which one I updated. Oh well.

I made the changes you asked and worked on the transitions and volume levels. I hope this version is better all around.

Thanks for the time.

No apology necessary, acbowgus! That's why we proof-listen. And I really did enjoy your submission. I will try to spot-check the file sometime before the weekend ends. Thanks! :)

Hello Robert, welcome to this project.

I've listened to your recording.
Normally new readers make a test recording first (see: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording)
You didn't, so I take this recording as your test.
It's almost good. The only problem that you have is, that you have a lot of background noise. In your file It's easy to remove that digitally. See: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noisecleaning_With_Pics
Could you please take a look at that page and reupload the noise cleaned file?

Thanks!

Hi Bart and Lucretia,
Here is 'Martin's Close', would you please have a listen and let me know your thoughts. There is a short guest appearance by my partner as, even with the best voice altering software I could find, changing my baritone voice to a female voice just sounded wrong (it was fun to play with though). Coincidentally, we have just returned from a week holidaying in Cornwall, very close to where the story takes place (spooky).
I hope it fits the bill.

Hi again Bart,
I hadn't realized how very close to fifty minutes the recording was but, without wanting to seem pedantic, with one second silence at the beginning and ten seconds silence at the end it comes to (as exactly as I can read) 50.00.581 (m,s,h).

Best regards,
Andy
