Welcome Lissa_Maylee and emoulton3 =)

I took a quick-check listen to both of your recordings and you both have good reading voices... clear and easy to understand =)

One thing that I noticed (on both recordings) is a metallic sound in the background... I suspect that you used Audacity's misleading "noise removal" feature... We've found that this feature in Audacity creates more background noise than it removes and is best avoided. If you happen to have a saved copy of the recording before you applied the noise removal, I'd love to hear that version too, but if not, don't worry about it as the recordings are clear and understandable. (hehe... just to let you know, I did the same thing to my first recording, so, don't feel alone on this one =)

I'm glad you're both here and look forward to hearing more recordings from you both =)

Sorry, I didn't save my pre-noise removal version. There was a lot of fuzz, before, but now that I listen to it again, I see what you mean. Sorry!

I noticed it, too, but my original was really scratchy. Unfortunately I also didn't save a copy. Good to know for the future--Thanks!

Hello Soundchest =)

I noticed that you had posted this over in the Horror Story collection and that you wanted it to be in with the Ghost Stories... which are over here: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3814

Sorry for the confusion...but I'll post this over there for you. I look forward to hearing this one as I am interested in this author =)

I've completed "Long Odds" and have uploaded it to http://www.studioae.com/LibriVox/Quatermain/LongOdds.mp3 File name = Long Odds.mp3.

The reading was from Gutenberg etext 1918 at http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext99/lodds10.txt.

In King Solomon's Mines and Allan Quatermain, the main character alludes to incidents and accidents that have befallen him during his career as a big game hunter and explorer in Victorian-era, colonial Africa. "Long Odds" fills us in on one of these incidents - how he tangled with a pride of lions, and the physical price he paid for the sake of adventure.

Brian has edited the work. His comments are in the generic Short Works section of this forum. I believe this means the file is ready to go??? Thanks much.

First I could not connect to the text using your link but found two versions of the text on Gutenberg at

and

I used the latter which had three minor differences to the one you used which I now know to be the former.

I was quite exited to find these differences as I can be quite officious but unfortunately, for me, they were not errors Sad

Actually I found your reading terrific. It had a casual, almost laconic air to it just like. the understated Quartemain.

A terrific yarn. Read well and accurate. Thanks for introducing me to this story.

John, I'm consistantly having trouble downloading files from Anita's server... I tried several times last night as well as this morning both from the link and by means of direct ftp and am having zero luck getting the entire file. Would you please try using a service like YouSendIt or MediaFire to post this one for us? Thanks =)

T'chick -
A bit unclear on what you're asking when you say post the file. Do you want me to email you the file using You Send It (which is the service you see when you open their home page) or was the notion that I would open an account and save the file on their server? I guess posting it would then consist of sending you the link.

Also, I too had trouble with the ftp.studioae server until I realized that the 0 in the password was a "zero" and not an "oh". No troubles since then (using FileZilla as my FTP application).

John, you can use something like yousendit to "email" the file to yourself and then post the link that they provide... you don't need to have an account with them to do this.

I'm not having trouble logging into Anita's server. It simply stops downloading part way through and does not resume. It's like the connection is not constant and interrupts itself. I've had this problem with her server in the past as well.
