Barrie then proceeds to tell the story of that one extraordinary exception, Peter Pan, who lives in the Neverland with pirates and fairies and is always having adventures. Light-hearted though it seems in premise, Peter Pan is a sweet but melancholy tribute to the fleeting innocence of childhood that has endured as a beloved favorite of children and adults alike ever since its first publication. Due to an arrangment between J. M. Barrie and a children's hospital, this book is sort of under copyright in the UK. See Ruth's post below.
Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.

For this project, I will be reading narration and the role of Peter. Amanda (JoFriday21) will be playing Wendy, and ElleyKat will play Michael. All other roles are available. I'd like gender-specific casting for Captain Hook, Mr. Darling, and the pirates. All other parts may be played by either gender.
Matt (erfunden) will be PLing the narration and Peter's part. I will PL the other parts and the completed chapters. Larry (silverquill) is doing the editing.

A. No, the hospital has a right to royalty in perpetuity, but this is not a true copyright. This right only applies to the UK for stage productions, broadcasting and publication of the whole or any substantial part of the work or an adaptation of it.
However, we in all parts of the UK perceive it as copyright, and do not record Peter Pan.

Although the novel Peter Pan (also known as Peter and Wendy) is in the public domain in the US, the play (and stage adaptations) is in copyright there until 2023. This is because the novel was published in 1911, but the play itself was only published in 1928, so its copyright was extended by the new term of first date of publication plus 95 years (set by the Sonny Bono Copyright Extension Act of 1998 for works published between 1923 and 1977).
Sorry to be a kill-joy but this is one of the world's leading children's hospitals, and needs all the funding it can get.

Tinker Bell appears in 7 chapters and has about 2 to 8 lines in each. She's more sassy than cute, though. If you want a really cute character I reccomend Jane, Wendy's daughter. She only appears in the last chapter, but has quite a few lines in it. Take your pick.
