This book can now be downloaded from the LibriVox catalogue: http://librivox.org/adventures-of-pinocchio-by-c-collodi/

Perhaps one day we shall read this in the original Italian, too, but for now let's do the English version! This was a suggestion from grayt (Tony Gray) and got some support over in Suggested Books.
The chapters are all quite short (mostly under 5 minutes), so feel free to claim more than one!

The Adventures of Pinocchio by C. Collodi. Translated from the Italian by Carol Della Chiesa.

Target completion date: May 1, 2006

Pronunciation
I think it would be nice if we could pronounce the names consistently. As this is the English version, we'll pronounce Pinocchio the English way.
- Pinocchio: first o is long, like in "go" - not like in "got"
- Geppetto: starts with a g like in "giraffe" - not like in "got"
- Translator: Chiesa is pronounced ki-esa.

If you come across any other recurring names that are not obvious, let me know and I'll include them here.

Two thoughts on pronunciation:
* The translator, I think, is pronounced ki-esa.
* Pinocchio in Italian (and in German! :)) would be pronounced with a short first 'o' - like in the English word 'got.' I think, though, that in English the first 'o' in Pinocchio is pronounced like in the English word 'told.'

If so, perhaps we should stick with that throughout. Any comments, whilst you claim?

I'd like to volunteer for Chapters 1 and 2 please.

Gesine, thanks for the pronounciation tips. Since we are doing this in English, I suspect most readers will be accustomed to the "long O" version. I don't have a strong preference either way. If we decide on the Italian pronounciation, perhaps you could post a small audio file here so that we could make sure we're saying it correctly?

Thanks!

Hi Sherry - thanks, yes, I think we should go with the English pronunciation. It would just be nice if everyone said the names the same way, I think. So Gepetto would start with a G as in giraffe (as opposed to get). I will put a note in the intro. - 01 and 02 are yours, have fun!

Oh! That's awesome! Take THAT, Jiminy!

Disney skipped the bit in Snow White where the wicked Queen dances herself to death in red-hot iron shoes, too...

I'll claim a few chapters here after I get caught up with my solo project everything else I've signed up for.

Well here I am to redeem a promise! Let me have 8, 9, and 10, now that I've finished reading about poor old Ichabod Crane. This looks like a lot of fun!
