I am currently recording North of Boston by Robert Frost. I expect to have it complete in about a week or so, and should post the first of 2 or 3 parts in the next day or so. I realize poetry is not exactly what this is about, but it gave me a good starting point to try out a shorter book, before I jump into the next book I want to do solo. I feel more confortable working solo for now.

I might re-encode it as I have fixed original to have the "tag" on the front point to librivox.org and added "end part 1" at the end.

A couple of technical questions:
1. Can you edit a file on ourmedia.org / internet archive, once you have uploaded it? If so, I don't see how right now through ourmedia.
2. I can't get any of the 64 bit files that are created by the archive from a 128 bit to work. Windows XP newest build, Media player, etc. Are these working for some others?
3. Hugh, do you do the final "publishing" that puts it in the right spot? Will we end up with two versions on the archive, or do you rename it? I used the OurMedia uploader to uplaod it like I do my podcast. Is there a better way to do this (noticed you suggested www.yousendit.com in your new help file). Is this better than uploading right to Ourmedia/IA?
4. I did the tags using the progam I use to tag my podcast. Can you check them and see if they are right.

OK, once I get these answered, I will fix part 1 and do parts 2 and 3. I will then sign up for a chapter of "Leaves of Grass", then its off to my next solo project if I still have steam left.

Brad -- Hugh is out of town for a few days, but let's see if I can help you. I don't think you can edit files once they're up on archive.org... As a matter of fact, it seems to be a good idea to upload all files of each book all at once, so they end up on the same page at archive.org, like this:

And that's why we recommend using a service like yousendit.com to send your files to your book team leader. Now, since you're doing a solo project, you can do whatever you want -- but for ease of cataloging the files here, it's better to have them all together.

It doesn't seem to be possible to move files around once they're on archive.org, so yeah, if you upload themj individually and then we take them and collect them all in one place, they'll be up there twice... Crazy, huh? :)

I can check your files for tags, etc, tomorrow, too tired now.

Oh, I haven't had any problems with the 64kbps files so far... I'll test yours tomorrow.

Hey Brad, sounds great! Love that accent :)

The 64kbps file works fine for me. The 128 file has nice ID3 tags (it seems that archive.org doesn't copy the ID3 tags to the 64kbs or ogg files, ugh). One small suggestion -- give your filenames two-digit numbers, like this:

title_01_author

or, if you've got over 99 chapters in the original, give them three:

title_001_author
title_023_author

and that way they will be alphabetized correctly by computers.

Thanks Kara for the nice words of encouragement.

I can't get any of the 64 bit files to load on either one of my machines (Win XP at home and Win2000 Pro at work both through windows media player... Hmmm maybe its windows media player that doesn't like them). oh Well.

One more question. How do you upload your files to the internet archive? I have been using the OurMedia service which has an uploader program, but it looks like Frankenstien (which I think yoiu put up) had been uploaded directly (as I didn't see any of the OurMedia tags on the page you sent me). Is there a way to upload directliy? Want to make sure when I put it up again, that I can get it all right this time.
