Bizarre by Lawton Mackall (1888 - 1968) .

Volunteers outside the USA: Lawton Mackall died in 1968. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/bizarre-by-lawton-mackall/
A series of essays offering a humorous look at commonplace items and occurrences. (Summary by Nick Bulka)
  • Target completion date: 2013-Jul-30
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/42710
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Nick, I noticed that section 5, JOUEZ BALLE!, has quite a bit of French in it that will need to be read. Can you speak French or perhaps we can ask around for someone else to record those lines for you?

Thanks. I missed that. French pronounciation is not something I'm very good at, so your suggestion regarding getting someone else to record those lines is a good one.

I have set up the MW for you. As a soloist, you are also the BC of the project and need to take care of adding things to the MW. I have sent you a PM with a user name and password you will need to log in to the MW as well as a link to some instructions.

In the Title for each section, please use one of these formats: 01 - Chapter 1, etc. or 01 - Unsolicited Personal Adornments, etc.

As for the French (which I personally always run away from), post a note in the Need Help forum asking if someone would be kind enough to record those lines for you and make sure you give them the link to the book and the chapter they need to go to. You might also want to try this website if you feel brave enough to try it from hearing someone else read it: http://text-to-speech.imtranslator.net/. (You can't use a computer voice in your recording though that might be tempting).

In the recording, I would suggest having one sentence in French and then the same sentence in English and then alternate that way until that section is done.

Let me know if you have any questions.

What is the standard way to deal with a book that is broken up not only into chapters, but also into sections?
ie - What-Nots, Minims, Jangles

thanks

I would just skip over those section titles and just read the chapter titles or it will get really confusing.

Hi Nick and Barry,

I'd like to sign on as DPL, if that's okay.

Nick, I added in the first 2 sections titles as an example of how they should look (for this particular book), could you add the rest in please?

I added Laura as the DPL.

1 & 2 are PL OK!! And I'm pretty sure I resemble chapter 2. I'll buy a book just for the cover, especially an old book. :)
