The Worst Journey in the World by Apsley Cherry-Garrard (1886 - 1959) .
Volunteers outside the USA: Apsley Cherry-Garrard died in 1959. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955).

This project is now complete and in the Internet Archive at http://archive.org/details/the_worst_journey_in_the_world_1308_librivox

It is also in our LV catalog at librivox.org/the-worst-journey-in-the-world-vol-2-by-apsley-cherry-garrard/ but this link will not work until the new catalog goes live which may be several weeks.

The Worst Journey in the World is a memoir of the 1910–1913 British Antarctic Expedition led by Robert Falcon Scott. It was written and published in 1922 by a survivor of the expedition, Apsley Cherry-Garrard, and has earned wide praise for its frank treatment of the difficulties of the expedition, the causes of its disastrous outcome, and the meaning (if any) of human suffering under extreme conditions. (Summary by Wikipedia)
  • Target completion date: 2013-Oct-01
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/14363
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Phil
I've filled in the magic window, but as you'll see there are a lot of repetitions, due to the fact that the book has chapters 9-12, and 17-18 all entitled 'the polar journey', each chapter with its own subheading. Not sure what to do here - would you prefer the subheadings included in the MW which will make it quite long in some instances, or shall I just leave it as it is.

It's also going to make reading the headings a bit cumbersome - for instance for section 6 -
"Chapter ten, the polar journey, continued, part 2, the Beardmore glacier, part 1."

Take your time and think about which way makes the most sense to you. You have read enough of this series to know what is comfortable so make it easy on yourself and the listener. I, being a free soul and liking descriptive chapter headings would probably go with stuff like "The Polar Journey; the Anderson Cravasse" or "Chapter 12: The Kevin Glacier surmounted" whatever is the subtitle. But I am not reading this book. As BC you have quite a bit of latitude here (pun intended).

What trials will they run into this time?... The picture of the moon with a halo around it always draws my attention when I pull up the text for volume 2.
