A friend of mine on a mailing list just sent a link to a collection of reviews on Amazon by people who thought Lewis was taking product placement ads, and that "The Grapes of Wrath" was all about dirt. They're pretty funny:

Enjoy!

I loved the review of The Sun Also Rises. Dinner, drinks, dinner, drinks. Yep, just how *I* remember it.

Thanks for posting that Catharine, it cracked me up! I loved the comment about The Tropic of Cancer: ?This book is one of the worst books I have ever read. I got to about page 3-4.? I wonder how many pages s/he reads before choosing a best book s/he has ever read!! :D

hahahahahahah!!!

Gatsby (oh if only it was published 3 years earlier):

?It grieves me deeply that we Americans should take as our classic a book that is no more than a lengthy description of the doings of fops.?

Lord of the Rings:

?The book is not readable because of the overuse of adverbs.?

To Kill a Mockingbird (my favorite book ever):

?I don?t see why this book is so fabulous. I would give it a zero. I find no point in writing a book about segregation, there?s no way of making it into an enjoyable book. And yes I am totally against segregation.?

It takes a _very_ special person to write something like that. Yipe! Some of them HAVE to be jokes.. the Narnia one!

I remember, back in my AP class in high school, convincing our sub (who had her Masters in English Lit) that the Grapes of Wrath was all about a turtle.

You should never leave a n00b sub alone with an AP English class for 90 minutes, bad things will always happen to them.

What you don?t realize, is that still to this day, at cocktail parties, she makes her colleagues pee when she recounts her experience of the supposedly ?AP? English class that seriously thought that the Grapes of Wrath was all about a turtle.

favourite rotten review, not sure who the reviewer was, writing about a production of chekov's Uncle Vanya:

"If you were to ask me what Uncle Vanya was about, I would say about as much as I can take."
