Kabumpo in Oz by Ruth Plumly Thompson (1891 - 1976) .
Volunteers outside the USA: Ruth Plumly Thompson died in 1976. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years).

This delightful project is now in our catalog at https://librivox.org/kabumpo-in-oz-by-ruth-plumly-thompson/
Dear children: Do you like Elephants? Do you believe in Giants? And do you love all the jolly people of the Wonderful Land of Oz? Well then you'll want to hear about the latest happenings in that delightful Kingdom. All are set forth in true Oz fashion in "Kabumpo in Oz," the sixteenth Oz book. Kabumpo is an Elegant Elephant. He is very old and wise, and has a kindly heart, as have all the Oz folks. In the new book you'll meet Prince Pompa, and Peg Amy, a charming Wooden Doll. There are new countries, strange adventures and the most surprising Box of Magic you have ever heard of. Ruggedo , the wicked old Gnome King, does a lot of mischief with this before Princess Ozma can stop him. Of course Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Scraps, Glinda the Good, Tik-Tok, and other old friends all are alive and busy in the new book. I am just back from the Emerald City with the best of Oz wishes for everybody, but especially you. Philadelphia Spring of 1922 Ruth Plumly Thompson (Summary by Ruth Plumly Thompson)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Text source (only read from this text!): http://manybooks.net/titles/thompsonrother09Kabumpo_in_Oz.html
Links to chapter text can be found in the MW
  5. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
  6. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

I've had a death in the family and won't be around Librivox much for the next while. I'll be back ... when I'm back. I appreciate your patience in the meanwhile. :)

FYI -

Kabumpo is the 16th Oz book, not the 15th, so you need to fix your book description. The 15th is The Royal Book of Oz - also written by Ruth Plumly Thompson.

Are you sure? I'll double check, but that's copied directly from the book. ..

Then you should put a tilde ~ in front of the title to advertise for one.

I'll DPL this for you if you don't mind -
Then I can double check what I'm submitting to Gutenberg at the same time.

Did you get this info from a physical book or scan - or from the transcription you propose to read from? I will have a copy of the first edition, first printing from 1922 in the next week, and will see what it says. Could be a typo.....or she just counted wrong.

L. Frank Baum wrote 14 Oz books between 1900 and 1920:

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
The Marvelous Land of Oz
Ozma of Oz
Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz
The Road to Oz
The Emerald City of Oz
The Patchwork Girl of Oz
Tik-Tok of Oz
The Scarecrow of Oz
Rinkitink in Oz
The Lost Princess of Oz
The Tin Woodman of Oz
The Magic of Oz
Glinda of Oz

Ruth Plumly Thompson wrote:

The Royal Book of Oz (1921)
Kabumpo in Oz (1922)
(And 17 more after that, but we can't record those :D )

Which makes Kabumpo #16 -

I'd love if you would DPL, Patti. And yes, please double check your physical copy of the book for what it says in regards to #. I'll change it to 16 in the summary. :) Just so you know, it might be a bit before I have anything up for you to read... I'm going to attempt to do this like a dramatic work, only doing voices for all the characters on my own... My plan is to record the narration and dialogue for the first chapter, edit them together, and then upload and wait for the PL before going on in this way. (So if it turns out to be awful or painful I can just re-record chapter 1 normally.) Doing this because I really want to BC some dramatic works, and it seemed like a good way to get some practice editing in while still being "productive." Just want you to be fully aware of my nefarious plan before we get underway here...

Phil, if you'll please add Patti to the MW as the DPL (if she doesn't run away screaming, that is.) :) Thanks much!

Patti added as DPL.
And that sounds like a very innovative way to practice and be productive. Great idea.

I very recently began toying with the idea of doing the exact same thing you are considering - I'm soloing a book with only 7 characters, mostly dialog. Unfortunately, didn't think of it until more than half way through recording - and not willing to start the book over again. Might still try it at some point, though, if I come across the same type book again.

I'm so glad you all approve of my plan! I'm in the process of preparing the text now while i wait for my new microphone to ship. :) Can't wait to start recording (and editing!) this.

Phil - as I'm going over the text, I see this is actually 22 chapters, plus an intro. Can you add 1 more section to the MW, please? Thank you!!

Once again the password problem is causing trouble. If you were given a password as a DPL, that should work. I will fiddle with it now and hope itworks.
EDIt: your password should work now;let me knowif it doesn't.
