Hi, Elizabeth--
Here is my Section 15 (Chapter XV: The School-Room and Nurseries):

(I'm sure that I must have subjected my daughter to "the deleterious effects of namby-pamby prettiness" in her bedroom decorations as she was growing up-- Who knew?)

Hi Lucretia and Elizabeth, Section 15 is PL OK! Wonderfully well read! And now I know where I went wrong . . . it was all those Dr. Doolittle books I got as presents! Cheers,lubee930 wrote:Hi, Elizabeth--

Hi Mudlark, I’m glad you finally were able to upload Ch. 12. I enjoyed listening to your reading of Wharton’s ideas on the decorative value of books and on home libraries. I really had a smile when Wharton said “The library writing-table is seldom large enough, or sufficiently free from odds and ends in the shape of photograph-frames, silver boxes, and flower-vases, to give free play to the elbows.” You didn’t make any mistakes in the reading, which is very good!
On the technical end of things, there are a few places in the recording which show “clipping.” This means your volume was a bit loud at those places. You can see the places where the clipping occurs if you go to the Audacity menu at the top of your screen, then to “Edit” and check “Show Clipping.” Then you will have red lines which show clippping. Overall, I think you could probably decrease the volume of your entire recording a bit to eliminate the clipping. I tried this out by highlighting the entire selection, then going to the”Effect” menu, then to “Amplify” and then “de-amplifying” by a factor of -1.5. If you could please de-amplify just enough to eliminate the clipping, your selection will be PL OK. Thanks,

Hi Mudlark, sounds good! Section 12 is PL OK!
Thanks to you both for section 12! Sorry, I was out of town for a few days and just got back...
I'm claiming chapter 16, "Bric-a-Brac." I personally can't stand bric-a-brac, so I'm interested to see what Wharton and Codman have to say about it.
Here's section 16:
