Hello, just checking if this is ok thing to do . I just missed the deadline for the fortnightly poem "The Voyage to Vinland" and I would like to post it here, I have it all recorded and almost ready to go. Is that ok? Thanks nbvoices

Yeah, I know where the settings are -- I think they must have got moved. But thanks, anyway. (But I should probably read the wiki anyway to see what's there that I might not know about.)

I've cut out the blips in the (supposedly) silent bit, re-exported as mono (definitely is: I checked the file), and re-uploaded:

Sonnet 18

ID tags are empty (Title, Artist, Album). I especially need the title and artist tags in this project, as they're all different.

File is in stereo; it should be mono.

Volume is a little low; see if you can amplify it by about 4 dB.

0:51 - "But thy eternal summer shall not fade" - stumble on "thy eternal"

1:01 - "Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade" - I heard "shall death bring"

1:18 - about 8 seconds between poem end and "End of poem." Cut this down to 2-3 seconds.

Silence

All good, except there are a lot of plosives throughout. This is where your breath directly hits the mic, causing that "wind hitting a microphone" effect.

I've tried cleaning them up in Audacity. It's not perfect, but better, IMHO. You could either re-record the worst parts, or if you are OK with this edit, we'll use this one: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/tg/spc118_silence_jc_tg.mp3

Let me go ahead and re-record it. I used a different headset mic and I think it is probably more sensitive than my other one. I'll try positioning it even farther from my mouth.

Okay, hopefully this recording will be better. For future reference, what effect do you use to edit plosives in Audacity?

I'll listen tomorrow.

I zoom in, highlight just the plosive, and do a High Pass Filter on it, usually set for 300. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it's spectacular.
