Growing up on the banks of the Mississipi river, a mischievious boy named Tom Sawyer spends his days getting into one scrape after another. Tom's cleverness, superstition, trickery, and daring make him a handful to raise, and his Aunt Polly declares that she has "never seen the beat of that boy!" Nonetheless, Tom is essentially good-hearted. But when he is witness to a horrible crime, his courage and integrity are tested beyond anything he ever expected.
A note to parents: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is considered a children's classic, but contains racial slurs which, although "acceptable" in the time and place of the story's setting, will likely offend modern listeners. (Summary by Eden Rea-Hedrick)
- Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.

NOTE: to the readers of Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and Injun Joe - All of the aforementioned characters use the "n" word at least once in the book (Huck says it frequently.) LibriVox has a "no censorship" policy, so the word must be recorded as it is. Injun Joe also says "damn" frequently. Also, a GENERAL NOTE: The character called "Injun Joe" is referred to by this name by all the other characters, and is also at times referred to as "the half-breed". Again, the "no censorship" policy applies. Please note that the characters who use these words are not being deliberately cruel; they are only ignorant and products of their time.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: to the whole cast - most of the characters in this book speak in a somewhat heavy Missouri dialect.
