The Ten-foot Chain or Can Love Survive the Shackles by
Max Brand (1892 - 1944),
Achmed Abdullah (1881 - 1945),
E. K. Means (1878 - 1957),
P. P. Sheehan (1875 - 1943)
.

This project is complete and in our catalog at http://librivox.org/ten-foot-chain-or-can-love-survive-the-shackles-by-achmed-abdullah-max-brand-e-k-means-p-p-sheehan/
True love can survive anything. Or can it? Four popular authors were lunching with an editor and the question came up: "What mental and emotional reaction would a man and a woman undergo, linked together by a ten-foot chain, for three days and nights?" The 4 very popular authors each had strong but divergent opinions of what would happen to such a couple chained together for 3 days and nights. The result was these fascinating stories. Does true love scoff at the small difficulty of constant proximity? Does being 'too close' become an acid that eats away even the bonds of love? What do YOU think would happen if you were to write such a story? Read and find out what these popular and creative authors think. (Summary by Phil Chenevert)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/32996
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)

    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

I'm sorry to keep this in the Launch Pad so long but I am really hoping for a Proof Listener. If no one magically appears by tomorrow I will move it out of here. I promise. Image

Oh Phil, I cannot resist your clever plea for a DPL. Therefore, I'd like to volunteer for the position.

Plus this looks really intriguing. :D

Thanks Betty! and yes, it was a cleverly disguised plea of anguish; I tried to used my puppy dog eyes too.
This is a fascinating project built on an intriguing premise and I think I'll read one myself.

Thanks again Betty; now I can move this to Readers Wanted with a clear conscience. Image

Phil, this sounds like one of your extremely interesting projects again...

I'd love to read for this, but I live in a death + 70 country, so at least Max Brand himself is out. Do you have any dates for the other authors?

I will check. And I really want to read the Max Brand one myself so this may work out fine.

EDIT: I have added the dates for all the authors. It seems that all will be out of reach for you. <sigh>

Phil,

I read through the source material and I would like to claim Section 4 as a reader. This is my first reading (yay!) and I'd like to appear as dianac in the LibriVox Catalaog. Also, I do have a website -- dianacherkas.com.

Welcome to LibriVox Diana ! Ironically enought, our dancing LV Xmas banana is named Diana too and is very happy you are here Image

I have assigned section 4 to you. Before you actually record it however, please submit a 1 minute test to check out your technical stuff before you do a whole section. And this is a big section.
Here is a video How To Make Your 1 Minute Test + the Script! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaRY_-bcfs
Also How to Upload your Test http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J83ZLPb4Xu8 but after uploading it to tests-tests, please post the link in this project thread so that i can work with you immediately.

There is also lots of good info in our wiki at Newbie Guide To Recording http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording

let me know how you would like to be recognized in our catalog; what name. and have fun. I look forward to your 1 minute test. Image

I'd be happy to have a go at the rather dangerous section 3, if you can accept a British accent.

EDIT: Sorry, I just realised that the author died too late for me ... I'd even printed out my reading copy!
