Grim: The Story of a Pike by Svend Fleuron (1874 - 1966) . Translated by J. Muir (1868 - 1914).

This project is complete and in our catalog at http://librivox.org/grim-the-story-of-a-pike-by-svend-fleuron/
A book about a fish? Well, yes, but not just a fish, a pike. Those big, tough, sleek, fish that, at 25+ kilograms, an angler dreams of catching. And this book describes one of these: a girl pike named Grim. "To devour others and to avoid being devoured oneself, that is life’s end and aim." This is the fascinating and exciting story of a girl pike named Grim from her early life as an innocent fish to the wily and wise Pike she ultimately becomes. But many are the perils and dangers she must avoid to get there. Translated by John Muir. (Summary by Phil Chenevert)
Volunteers outside the USA: Svend Fleuron died in 1966. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years).
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/40921

NOTE: you will need to scroll down to find your section. The table of contents has links but they just bring you back to the first page.
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Daniel, welcome to LibriVox! That's great. I would love to assign all 15 sections to you but since you are new, I will sign you up for just the first 3 sections to be sure you like recording. If your 1 minute test goes well, I will happily give you all the rest.

PLEASE complete your 1 minute test before you do anything else. How to Make Your 1 minute Test and How to Upload your 1 minute test. This is not really a test, just so we can see you have all the tech specs correct and suffieicnt volume. You may post the link in this project and I will check it out for you.

Instructions on recording are all listed in the first post of this project about the fish; such as file names, etc.

I also recommend Getting to Know Our Forums as a good introduction to finding yur way around.

Welcome again and please ask any questions you have. We are a friendly bunch here and want you to record lots. Image

Well .... I don't know Pamela. I think that chapter may be a bit uh ... risque and is PG13. Do you meet the requirements?

Yes you can read it.

Hi Pamela!

Here is the PL note for Section 9 - The Wedding Festival. (A very nice and clear reading, too!)

1) At 6:17 - Pop at beginning of "tissue" in the phrase "cell tissue."

Nothing else to note except that there were a number of times when it felt like the reading was skirting with plosives-which-almost-but-didn't-quite happen. Predictably, I noticed these with "p" and "th." Nothing to correct for this recording regarding plosives, but you might consider moving your mic slightly for future recordings. I'd hate for a similar well-done reading which is otherwise gorgeous to have to be fiddled with (or rerecorded!) for plosives which are more easily prevented than cured.

Updating the MW now.

Hi Phil!

I need the MW behind-the-scenes magic which lets me access the MW so I can put in my PL notes. I'm so sorry - I wish it would just let me in!
