This is an abandoned solo project, to be completed with a group.
(Summary by )
How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
DURING recording: No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording! Note: Chapter 2 had to be split into two parts, so all subsequent chapters are off by 1 - chapter 3 is section 4. so please start off with the section number, so that sections all start with the right number. thank you! Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording: START of recording (Intro)
"Section [number, as in the mw] of Recollections of Old Liverpool by a Nonagenarian. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say: "Recollections of Old Liverpool by a Nonagenarian by James Stonehouse. Chapter [number, part if applicable]"
END of recording
At the end of the section, say: "End of Section [number, as in mw]"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of Recollections of Old Liverpool by a Nonagenarian by James Stonehouse."
There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.
Example filename
liverpool_##_stonehouse_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is your section number. (e.g. liverpool_01_stonehouse_128kb.mp3)
Example ID3 V2 tags (just leave those blank!)
Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.
Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
I've changed a couple of things in the first post. We'll stay here to see if we can get a DPL.
I've just added the titles for the first two sections os you can see how it is done, I'll leave you to do the rest

I.E. wouldn't log me in . . . but Google Chrome did so we now have preface and 16 chapters (which proves to be my second ooops - it should be preface and 17 chapters)
Let's hope for the learning curve ti kick in quickly.
Didn't notice any donkeys breying or cats mewing - so you did a good job of editing.
Please cut silence at the beginning to .5 to 1 second. Otherwise, 00 is great.
And you're off!
(Very busy week. Big project with deadline on Wednesday so each day is run run run. Looking forward to 'quietly' mulching the 4" of leaves covering my backyard tomorrow question the lawn mower.)
Thank you, MaryAnn - screamingly busy here also - month-end real estate.
Duhh re: half-second silence at beginning - I got my decimal point in the wrong place and inserted 5 seconds of silence
What was your view on my inserting an "in" to make sense of the sentence? - even though it wasn't in the text (am sure we'll encounter the same issue further on)
I'll upload chapter one tomorrow - I've deliberately been tinkering with my recording process and have recorded it in separate "chunks" and also re-recorded fluffed lines and copied-and-pasted (as well as "punch-and-roll" (is that the correct term?)) . . . I'll process all as one piece - let me know if you notice the joints, please
Enjoy your leaf-blowing . . . hope you also get some time for W&P
update on apparent lack of progress . . . I'm collecting a truckload of (donated) sound-proofing / sound-absorbing panels this weekend and will be re-constructing my closet (oops - studio ) . . . I'll re-voice the first 2.5 chapters that I have in the can but are only partially edited so that all will sound the same hereafter
I should have more than sufficient to sound-proof the studio (closet ) and also the door to my office (spare bedroom ) and hopefully some left over to mask the refrigerators and my computer . . . . problem then will be to hide my stomach-rumbling noises!
Plan is to build a barn for the donkeys etc, and to incorporate a studio, complete with a whisper room . . . hope to do it next year
