Strange!
I went through the file and took it down (there were parts that were a bit loud, which I had missed) but I can't see that it is in any way loud now you know. I even listened to the story as a whole afterwards. But I'll look into it again tomorrow.

Oh dear... I really am a pest, aren't I?

Have you ever tried MP3Gain? It is a very quick and easy little program that just reads the decibel level of the recording and tells you what it is. Which means you can check the decibel level yourself, before ever the pestiferous Proof Listener gets her scrubby hands on your beautiful recording.

The decibel level on the rolling olive is now OK!

What are we having PL's for if not to help readers to do a better job?

I think I downloaded the program recently, if I remember right, to my NEW computer, which I am going to switch over to - bit by bit, so I'll take a look there, and either put it on this one too, as long as i am using it, or try to switch over to the new one a bit more quickly.
(The new has a much better soundcard - for example, and is a lot faster, and with quite an enormous lot of memory.)

I'll be interested to see what you might be saying about the other little story I have uploaded to this collection too.

Ooh, I see there is already a Nathaniel Hawthorne story here, I'd love to add to that. How about Rappaccini's Daughter and The Artist of the Beautiful? I'd love to read them.

Perfect! I'll start with Rappacinni's Daughter. Just a few pronunciation questions before I begin; in the introduction of this story, there are various story titles listed, followed by abbreviations... I'm not sure what the abbreviations stand for.

For example:

Le Voyage Celeste de Fer, 3 tom.

"Tom" is one used often, there is also "vo" and "to" and they always have numbers before them. I would think "vo" would stand for "volume", though normally that would be "vol" (at least nowadays), and maybe "tom" is for "tome"? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:)
