Satires by Juvenal (approx: 60-127 AD). Translated by GG Ramsay (1839-1921).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/satires-by-decimus-iunius-iuvenalis-juvenal/
Decimus Iunius Iuvenalis, known in English as Juvenal, was a Roman poet active in the late 1st and early 2nd century AD. The details of the author's life are unclear, although references within his text to known persons of the late 1st and early 2nd centuries AD fix his terminus post quem (earliest date of composition). The Satires are a collection of satirical poems by Juvenal written in the late 1st and early 2nd centuries AD. Juvenal is credited with sixteen known poems divided among five books; all are in the Roman genre of satire, which, at its most basic in the time of the author, comprised a wide-ranging discussion of society and social mores in dactylic hexameter. These five books were discrete works, and there is no reason to assume that they were published at the same time or that they are identical in theme or in approach. The poems are not individually titled, but translators have often added titles for the convenience of readers. (Summary by wikipedia)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.ccel.org/ccel/pearse/morefathers/files/index.htm#Juvenal_Satires

The text has many footnotes, please do NOT read them!
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or DPL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

OK, I think that is it! If a very kind and wonderful MC could resurrect the abandoned solo, I would appreciate it! I have added 1 extra section because Satire 6 is 7700 words, so it needs to be split. I will also DPL this project!

Question of clarification: you do not need the old thread moved over to the Launch Pad, correct? It looks like you have all the info you need?

What I need to get are the PL notes for sections 1 and 2. Just so that I know what I need to do to fix them. This one looks pretty straightforward. I usually try to get the old summary, but I think that what I pieced together from Wiki sounds OK, so I will go with it!

Hello, can I claim satire 7?

Also, I suppose you don't want the footnotes read, right?

Best,
Leni

Best,

Hi Leni,

Satire 7 is yours. No, please don't read the footnotes. I think that satire will sound better without them. Thanks for asking!
