Ivanov by Anton Chekhov (1860 - 1904) . Translated by Marian Fell.

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/ivanov-by-anton-chekhov/
Nicolai (anglicised Nicholas in this translation) Ivanov, a middle-aged public servant, is unhappy. His wife Anna, disinherited by her family after converting from Judaism, is dying of tuberculosis. He is deeply in debt. And his best friend’s daughter is infatuated with him. Comedy and tragedy ensue in truly Chekhovian fashion. An example of the young Chekhov’s maturing style, Ivanov is an early harbinger of themes that would recur throughout his work. (Summary by mb)
  1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  2. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here

To find a role to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which role you'd like to read. Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  3. New to recording?

Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1755
  5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I think I'd like to be Ivanov, please, if that's okay with everybody. I am very excited about this. I hope at least 18 other people are too!

I'd be happy to do the "Narration.." Could I?

OK, all set up, mb! Let me know if you need anything else at this stage. I've put catrose in as DPL.

I'd be happy to read a role - and if I'm honest with myself, I am probably more suited to the tubercular Anna than the hot young Sasha, so I'll take the former, please. :)

Okay, I wasn't sure who Elizabeth wanted or if you had a prior arrangement--but since hot young Sasha is still available, can I grab her? (My days of being hot and young are rapidly coming to an end.)

I'd like to read Borkin, please.

Incidentally, I suppose you've seen this comic?

Sure! That'd be awesome!

Listen, we're all crazy hot and young here, okay? Especially me. I'm probably way too young and hot for the part I'm reading, but my hot young Uncle Vanya still hasn't got me beat up, so I'm going out on a limb again.

Hi Grace,

Sorry, someone got to Anna before you! Could I interest you in another part?

Ha! My only BCing criteria:
1. Has it been at least three years since you last BCed a project?
2. Do you shoot yourself at the end?

Sorry to be unclear in my self-deprecation - I was saying that since I'm rapidly approaching 40, maybe I'd better read Anna instead of 20-year-old Sasha. It would be truly sad if I became the resident LibriVox Margo Channing.
