So, is one needed for this book??? I've PM'ed the reader earlier this evening, but maybe that wasn't the right protocol? I'm a little confused about this process.

Hi ya Susan, we don't have any chapters available yet for listening to. (unless I missed something big, here)

:) I'm getting the impression you like Bleak House! PMs are great. Any time atall. Also, multiple listeners are always welcome on anything and everything. Say, did you notice a finished project (I'm MCing) called Extraordinary Adventures of ... Lupin ... ? Listeners Wanted thread. It's a fun project while you're waiting for these files.

General guide for protocol when the way is unclear -- if it's a procedure, like recording or starting a project, poke about for a guide (but don't worry, we don't expect folks to read *everything* before they ask a question or make a move, heavens -- some of our guidelines have a great deal of care and even humor in them, though, so we do love it when we notice that someone has read the sticky in the top post of a particular forum or the wiki guide for a particular topic. It's just so cool, so gratifying).

Your question about prooflistening . . . perfect to PM acrobatty. 10 times out of 10, if you don't get a response right away, it's due to busy-ness. Now and then, a thread is so busy that a post is actually overlooked, so repeating a question or statement is handy.

As I said, though, Bleak House needs Cynthia's files to make it onto a server so that ezwa (the MC) can link to the files so you (and others, too) can listen to the files.

thanks thanks thanks!

Hi Anita:

Well, I do love this book--but I think I'm mainly a little confused about how things work, and basically trying to feel my way around.

Thanks for the help--and I'll sit tight until further notice on BH. Meanwhile, there definitely are other fun things to listen to--yahoo!

Best Wishes,
Susan

Oh, well, as for myself, I have a special and highly developed skill for getting lost. I doubt anyone's confusion could ever surprise me.

I think it's lovely that you're wanting to observe protocol. Have no fear about accidentally stepping on someone's toes here because we're generally so busy in the dance that little notice is paid to accidental missteps. Be assured, anytime someone comes stomping along, a number of fleet-footed admin will escort the hobnails off the dance floor. But you are obviously wearing pretty, sparkly slippers. :D

And it seems you're already in the swing of things!
Editing, eh? Did I read that right somewhere -- you enjoy audio editing???

Hey ezwa, hey HeartofTexas,

I just spoke with acrobatty/Cynthia, and she has 18 chapters recorded!
I never noticed it before, but the first chapter is already uploaded to Kara's uploader, though it's just sitting in the inbox. (probably ezwa and kara will coordinate how to make a bleakhouse folder)

So Hearto' you could begin your listening by ... hmm, here's a temporary link for you ...
http://librivox.kayray.org/uploader/files/bleak_house_01_dickens.mp3
(when the file goes into its folder, ezwa would give you the new link)

And Cynthia will begin uploading the other chapters soon.

Oo-la-la! 8) happy listeners!

Great !
I'll be adding the links to the recordings in the first post's window as they come (when we've made a folder for them).

Sabotage!
Don't worry about it, Cynthia.
Kara, I downloaded it, so I'll upload it back.

No worries Dragon Kara (so, you have completely recovered from your death? I knew my alicumpane worked wonders!).
Thanks for the folder. Is there any way I can help moving the files in there?

For this go-around, where is the best place for me to send my comments? To Cynthia directly, or post them here? I've got Chapter 1 done.

Hmm, Cynthia, what kind of prooflistening would you like for this project?
The standard (repeat and long pauses) ?
Just for HeartofTexas to know what to comment on.

BTW, HeartofTexas, thanks for prooflistening!

Cynthia:

Wow. You are really hitting your stride in Chapter 3. I ‘m really excited. Your voice has such good inflection and pacing—very pleasant to listen to. I can hear you reading many books in this genre; you’re a natural!

I've got the few things I heard in Chapters 1-3--as soon as I find where I should post them!

Oh, Susan, sorry! I understand your hesitation to post here in the book thread, of course -- I've been slow on the uptake here.

When a book is adopted by a listener before it has posted to the Listeners Wanted thread, the prooflistening comments are typically posted right into the book thread.

Here. :D

But actually... I have an idea... ezwa, what do you think of posting to the listening thread asking for an editor to make the changes. Cynthia may like to learn editing in the future, but for this book, it makes a lot of sense to enlist an editor.

Then Susan's prooflistening comments could go into that thread, and the editor would have the one spot to see what needs doing.

Whaddaya think?
