The World As Will and Idea by Arthur Schopenhauer (22 February 1788 - 21 September 1860) . Translated by R. B. Haldane & J. Kemp ( - ).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-world-as-will-and-idea-volume-1-by-arthur-schopenhauer/
Schopenhauer used the word "will" as a human's most familiar designation for the concept that can also be signified by other words such as "desire," "striving," "wanting," "effort," and "urging." Schopenhauer's philosophy holds that all nature, including man, is the expression of an insatiable will to life. It is through the will that mankind finds all their suffering. Desire for more is what causes this suffering. He used the word representation (Vorstellung) to signify the mental idea or image of any object that is experienced as being external to the mind. It is sometimes translated as idea or presentation. This concept includes the representation of the observing subject's own body. Schopenhauer called the subject's own body the immediate object because it is in the closest proximity to the mind, which is located in the brain. (Summary by wikipedia) Volume 1 of
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/38427

Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.[/b]

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: arb - annise
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

ATTENTION READERS : (1) the gutenberg link does not have hyperlinks and when you have to find your section the best way is to copy the number along with the symbol § and searching for in the crtl+f in windows or cmd+f in MAc;
like if you are searching for section 17 then "Crtl+f § 17" is the fastest way to get you there.
(2): please do NOT read the foot notes, for your and the listeners convenience.

Any questions?
Please post below or PM me. :)

Hi Sid
I will set this up for you - but have a few questions - it is descibed as Volume 1 containing 4 books so looks like you need to mention that somewhere ? I take it you are only planning this to be 1 volume ?

hello awangelgirl,
Welcome to librivox, you can sure take up the sections you want, however, its important that you get an OK in the listeners thread after submitting your one minute test recording, after which you'll have a fairly good idea of how it all works in Librivox and thats what you'll be using again and again.
so, see you soon.

FYI, you have two 07's, 16's, and 17's and no 15. ;)

I assume that the section titles in the MW are NOT what you want in the ID tags. What do you want for ID tags? (It might be better to put what you have in the sections into the notes field instead, and make the section titles in the MW what you want for the ID tag.)

I've slowed down on my recording lately, but when I get back into it, I'll consider claiming some sections. :)
