COMPLETE The Freedmen's Book by Lydia Maria Child - ck
Lucretia,
I decided to go back to Toussaint l'Ouverture. This is a long piece so I divided it into three sections. Section 10, Part 1, runs from page 34-47. Section 11, Part 2, continues through page 64. Section 13, Part 3, is the balance. I have uploaded Part 1. I need to work on editing Parts 2 and 3. I'll try to get them up for listening in the next few days.

Good morning, Rhonda--
Sorry for the slight delay in my PL'ing. I am having limited access to a computer for a couple of days, but should be back to normal by tomorrow.
I listened to Section 10 last night, and I just noticed a couple of things:
--At ~12:10 the text says "More impetuous than the torrents"--but I hear "More impetus than the torrents".
And then at two places:
--At ~24:42 the text says "Louis XVI (sixteenth), king of France"--but I hear "Louis VI (sixth), king of France".
--At ~25:40 the text says "Louis XVI (sixteenth)--but I hear "Louis VI (sixth)".
That's it. Boy, it is hard to imagine how terrifying the situation must have been in St. Domingo. Not light reading, for sure.
Have a great day, Rhonda.

Good morning, Lucretia!
I don't know what I was thinking with Louis XVI. A very odd error. But, anyway, I made the corrections and uploaded the new file.
I know I owe you the last two parts of this piece. I am slow at editing and I have had numerous distractions which are not helping. So, I may not be able to finish these files until after the weekend.
Hope you have a good holiday!

Sounds good, Rhonda--I will spot check the last file. And no hurry on the other sections--I have lots of "listening" to accomplish this weekend on my other DPL projects.
Do have a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Ugh... finally have section 11 but not yet for section 12. Seems like something keeps getting in my way every day. Will get that last section to you as soon as I can.

Hi, Rhonda--
I will try to listen to Section 11 tomorrow. And no hurry on 12. Our lives are always so busy, right? I know that editing takes a lot of time, too--at least it does for me, for sure. So take your time...

Hi, Rhonda--
Great reading again for Section 11--the tone of your voice is always so pleasing! Only one thing struck my ear as I listened.
Section 11:
--At ~30.13, I have always heard the word "ascertain" pronounced as "as-ser-tane´" with the emphasis on the last syllable. But let me know if you disagree, and I'll mark it OK. Other than that one word, everything was good!
Again, no need to rush on the last part of this chapter. I will be here whenever you need more PL'ing...

A wonderful reading, Rhonda--and, yes, such a sad and interesting part of history. I was not familiar with l'Ouverture at all. And I am really curious about the sonnet by Wordsworth that was mentioned at the end of the chapter. I'm going to search it out since it will be more meaningful to me now. (Isn't that the great part of exploring literature? One link leads to another link...)

Have a great day!
