The Sunny Side by A.A. Milne (1882 - 1956)(Selections) .

This delightful project is complete and in our catalog. All audio files can be found at http://librivox.org/the-sunny-side-by-a-a-milne/

Volunteers outside the USA: A.A. Milne died in 1952. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955).
The Sunny Side is a collection of short stories and essays by A. A. Milne. Though Milne is best known for his classic children's books, especially Winnie The Pooh, he also wrote extensively for adults, most notably in Punch, to which he was a contributor and later Assistant Editor. The Sunny Side collects his columns for Punch, which include poems, essays and short stories, from 1912 to 1920. Wry, often satirical and always amusingly written, these pieces poke fun at topics from writing plays to lying about birdwatching.
They vary greatly in length so there should be something for everyone. Milne wrote in a thoroughly British atmosphere and for a thoroughly British audience so some of his references, such as to the O.B.E. (Order of the British Empire) or V.C. (Victoria Cross) may need a bit of research for those 'not of the Empire' (like me) to understand. (Summary by wikipedia and Phil Chenevert)
  • Target completion date: 2012-June-31
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/13441
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

NOTE: Please use the links to the text that are in each section. Remember to read the proper introduction and ending for each one.

Also, Milne often divides his essays into sections or make believe 'chapters': e.g. I, II, III, and the like. Please just read them as they are written, for example 'I' would be 'chapter I'. Use your discretion and common sense as to what sounds the best and ask if you want others opinions. He is usually making fun of a particular writing style when he does this. Phil

I'd be happy to DPL this if you need someone.

It looks like a fun one. Is there a prohibition against reading something you're DPLing? If I can wrassle my mic back from my wife I might be tempted to take a section or two.

Thanks. I would be happy to have you as DPL.

And no rule at ALL about reading sections. Assuming you can wrench the mic away from your lovely wife, I will proof listen to them when you're finished. Or better yet, she can do it!

Have you been a Dedicted Proof Listener before? Do you have your own magic password to get into the Magic Window, or should I send it to you? :D

Yes, I've soloed, contributed, BC'd and DPL'd, so I have a magic password, but I may need to come up with a few more acronyms. :)

You're looking for "standard" PLing, but on the poems do you want me to be more word perfect?

Yes, poems should be more accurate indeed. Good idea and thanks for asking. Please feel free to suggest anything at all if it seem appropriate. More acronyms .. hmmmm. How about V.C. and O.B.E. that I mention above. ? You could be an Outstanding Book Explainer perhaps? or a Vicious Circle?

By the way, I am trying to make Google docs for easy reference and that takes me a long time. Thanks again. (what is your current solo? )Image

(what is your current solo? )
No solos right now. I'm PLing and contributing to a couple of projects (just finished a chapter for Hoof and Claw and am reading a part for Roaring Girl). I'm not adding a Solo for the time being or I'll never get my mic back. :)

Welcome to LibriVox pcjce07 ! We love to see such enthusiasm.
I've signed you up for sections 09, 10, 11 and 13 as requested.

Please read the first post of this thread carefully.

Your forum name will be used in the LibriVox catalog unless there is another name or pseudonym you'd prefer for that. If so, please let me know. We can also link to a personal web site/blog.

Also, if this is your first recording, we ask that you send in a 1-minute test recording. This is not an audition, it's just to make sure the sound quality and the recording settings are all right - often things can be improved at the outset that are difficult to fix later. Please go to this wiki page to find out what to record for your 1-minute test, and how to upload the recording. In the LibriVox Uploader, please select 'tests - tests' from the MC drop-down, and then post your test recording in the Listeners Wanted forum, rather than in this thread - you'll get feedback more quickly there.

Here is a video that explains how to upload the 1 minute test: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J83ZLPb4Xu8

And here is Our LibriVox Forum: some cool things to know. Plus there are lots of great things in our wiki and in the link in my signature.

Ask questions and we look forward to hearing your 1 minute test and then lots of great recordings!

Whoops. I forgot to tell you how to see the actual text to read.
In the first post above you will see this:
Target completion date: 2012-Dec-31
Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/13441
Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
the link following "Text source (only read from this text!).." is where you can see the book itself. Go to the Gutenberg text and scroll down until you see the title of the section you want to read.
I am in the process of making a separate Google document for readers to quickly find their text without so much searching but I am slow and it may take me a day or so. Use the above method in the mean time to see what they look like. If you don't like the section, just say so and pick another one but tell me first.

Have fun!
