Posting section 02 now. I'm not used to editing just few sentences after having recorded the whole thing, and I hope it doesn't break the flow of the reading. If you hear any problems, please let me know, and I will go back to my original file and just fix the one sentence where my misread word actually changed the meaning of the text, to minimize the interruptions in sound. Thanks!

Thanks. I'll have listen later today.

FYI this recording is perfect. The recording quality is good, the reading is very clear, and there were no omissions or errors I could detect as I followed in the text. Great job.

Sorry for my extended absence! I had a deeply personal and unexpected issue come up that has prevented me from working on any of my LibriVox projects, but I am back in the swing of things now and working on the next section.

At long last, here is section 03. It is 41:32.
http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/cm/democracyandeducation_03_dewey.mp3
It looks like (after the holidays) Wednesdays will be my recording days. I'll record one (potentially two) sections each week, with an occasional missed week, I'm sure. All the same, there shouldn't be a problem finishing this project prior to the deadline.

There are 3 minor things about the chapter 3 recording:
* Intro not standard
* About 7:40 used the word “whom” instead of “when”, in this sentence:
2. Modes of Social Direction. Adults are naturally most conscious of
directing the conduct of others when they are immediately aiming so
to do.
* At 25:02 in the sentence:
But it leads to activity having a meaning and conscious intent only when things are used to produce a result.
You read “things are used to produce a will”.
The only thing I would bother to correct though, is the intro. In the first two recordings you used the standard script, in the two you just uploaded, you've diverged from it. I think it's better to keep this uniform.
I have not listened to chapter 4 yet, I will in the next few days.

Never mind about the intro, I see that it's mentioned you can use the shortened form. I would say that chapter 3 is PL OK, the few misspoken words are very minor.

Thanks floydwilde. I just took another listen to chapter four and I misread the footnotes. So I will update those today (it's just a matter of copying and pasting) and reupload. No need to PL chapter four until I fix the footnotes. I'm also going to record chapter five today, so keep an eye out for that as well.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Tim

Hey it's been a year since the last update on this thread, and the deadline is way past. I suggest we open this up to other readers. Anyway I PL'd chapter 4, only a few minors errors and i recommend it be accpted:
1. ( about 5:20) If it were said that children are themselves marvelously endowed with power to enlist the cooperative attention of others, this would be thought to be a backhanded way of saying that others are marvelously attentive to the needs of children.
Tim said "action" instead of "attention"
2. (about 5:50) Inattention to physical things (going with incapacity to control them)
is accompanied by a corresponding intensification of interest and
attention as to the doings of people.
Again "action" instead of "attention"
3.) (about 7:02) There is always a danger that
increased personal independence will decrease the social capacity of
an individual.
Tim says "decrease with social capacity"
4.) (about 12:59) The environment is thought
of as something fixed, providing in its fixity the end and standard
of changes taking place in the organism; adjustment is just fitting
ourselves to this fixity of external conditions.
"eternal conditions" instead of external
5.(about 13:06) Habit as
habituation is indeed something relatively passive; we get used to our
surroundings--
says "environment" instead of surroudings
6. (about 19:18) The Educational Bearings of the Conception of Development.
Concept instead of Conception.
Those are the only errors I picked up, and within the limits I think. Anyway the time for this project to be solo is past, I'm happy to keep PL'ng and would probably read a few chapters if we can move it to the Readers Wanted forum. About time we get this catologued.
