Jason,

Anything an enthusiastic novice can do to help? I am on the wrong coast to loan you a computer. But perhaps I might be able to do the grunt work to assemble readings in a chapter or two so they were in just one file per chapter. And then you could do the critical finicky artistic judgement work to adjust the timing of phrases and volumes to make them into a good product?

Thanks, Todd

Todd - If you do that, I would suggest saving the files as FLAC for Jason to work with. It is a lossless format. However, the files might end up being large, in which case you might have to upload them to something like http://ge.tt rather than the uploader (the uploader's file size limit is 100 MB). ;)

Just a couple side thoughts...

Oh oh. Showing my noviosity and perhaps utter lack of qualifications to do what I offered, what is FLAC and who is ge.tt when not at home???

It's not really a big deal.

FLAC is "Free Lossless Audio Codec" (if you care what the acronym stands for). It's an audio format like MP3, but MP3 compresses the files and loses data with each new encoding. After several exports to MP3, the quality of the audio declines. FLAC doesn't degrade in quality. It can be done just like exporting to MP3 in Audacity, except you export to FLAC.

ge.tt is a file sharing web site. If a file is too big to go in the uploader or through email, it's a good way to give someone a large file. You upload it, and it gives you a web address you share with whomever so they can download the file.

Responding to the Orphans notice - here is the Majordomo in Chapter 11

http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ce/pimpernel_majordomo_11.mp3
length 0:17

With this, I think the only part outstanding might be Sir Percy which was claimed by blondebronwie back in September.

Thanks Todd. This project is inching along. I really need to make the time to do some of my part in editing everything together. Honestly, I'm a novice too. I got a new Mac for work. I hope to be able to do some editing on that over the holidays. Maybe I can get a couple chapters finished by the end of the year... :D And, yes, if you want to edit some together, I won't complain. Just let me know which chapter you are working on so that I don't duplicate the effort.

Jason,

I'll start with the very last section (I think all the inputs are there) and see if I can pull it together into a lossless FLAC file so that you can then polish it to your satisfaction. If that works - meaning that I don't tear all my hair out in frustration and you like the result - then I'll slowly work down from that end.

I appreciate the opportunity to give the editing a try. Three months ago I could not spell Audacity and now after almost 40 sections together (including singing in Pirates) we are - if not fast friends - at least nodding acquaintances.

Thanks, Todd

Thanks Todd. I look forward to seeing it. Sounds like you may be more familiar with Audacity that I am now. I got very familiar with it when I started this project, how many years ago that was...

Now, I've not used it in a couple years, and this project is a little stagnant because of it. I need to get off my duff and start working on it, but unfortunately real life has grabbed me by the duff and has been thrashing me around for the last couple years and I've not gotten much done with some of the projects I'd rather be working on. Makes me a bit sad, but that is life for you.

Bill

How did it get so late so soon?
It’s night before it’s afternoon.
December is here before it’s June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?

Here is a trial of section 31 assembled ready for final edit. I have uploaded both mp3 and FLAC version as the lossless latter file, though larger, may be better for final edit I am told.

http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ce/pimpernel_31_orczy_assembledbytodd.flac

The mp3 claims to be 21:37 long; FLAC does not list a length.

Also I uploaded a text file of labels which you can import into Audacity (leastwise the Beta version anyhow) along with the voice file. Synchronize labels and voice tracks together and you have a cue for each voice entry point (well sorta - I had a little trouble with this) to make editting easier. Kinda.

Do we have alexfoster Chauvelin files for the later chapters? (The MW is not everywhere up to date with links. Mine for example) There are earlier chapter Chauvelin files but not for the final scenes - that I can find.

Thanks, Todd
