Wow, fifteen recordings! Thank you all.
Kristin, very good reading speed and timing.
Sean, very clean and clear recording, good speed.
John, another very clean recording, with good speed of reading.
Alice, your recording was a little quiet, but we should be able to sort that out when I upload your file; very expressive.
Chip, very well expressed, strongly felt.
Kara and Chris need no encouragement!
All readings were very well expressed; love poems must bring out the best in us.

Thanks for the kind words, Peter! I really got a kick out of listening to all of those renditions of the same poem; each person brought something special to it.

Darn it, Tis, I was going to say something like that. :) I really enjoyed this one because it was very romantic without being all MUSHY.tis wrote:Humourous love poems most of all... my favourite two emotions :)Peter Why wrote:All readings were very well expressed; love poems must bring out the best in us.

I don't normally like poetry, but I enjoyed this one too. It seems to express to me the sillyness that happens to people when they are in love. A great piece of text for me to do my first recording!
JC -- I just happened to pop in and gave your poem a listen -- lovely reading, fine pacing, great recording quality! If you enjoyed yourself, please go sign up for a chapter of one of our books in progress :)J. Crevier wrote:Here's my first librivox contribution. Feedback of any type is welcome!

Right, it's Saturday morning, and unless you're really desperate to get your version into the set, that's the lot.
No one's asked to have a poem read: please do.
Jean, a clean, clear recording, well-expressed. I've changed your initials in the file name to jcr, because we already have a version by another jc, your file would have overwritten that one in the directory where they are being stored.
Tony, a thoughtful, very clear recording.
Squiddartha, clear and well-timed.
Peter

Here's my addition, hope I'm not late!
I don't have much experience reading poetry, I hope I will get better!

As usual, I come in under the wire last!
My contribution to this lovely poem (better read by a female voice, I think) can be downloaded from: http://www.climber53.com/librivox/i_do_not_love_thee_norton_rg.mp3
I am very interested in how this comes across technically as I am in full swing with Clive Hamilton's work and want to discover problems with the technical aspects fairly early on.
Thanks!
Robert

Very nice, Robert! About the only suggestion I'd make is to try to make it a little louder - probably something better done by adjusting levels and microphone position then by actually speaking louder. The reading itself was very good.

Thank you for the feedback, Chip. I'm using AudioRoom for software, so it was an easy matter to increase the volume. This I did by 250% and uploaded the enhanced version to my ftp site. I hope it is not TOO LOUD now! (Please let me know how this adjustment worked )
Anyway, I wasn't surprised by your comment-- I had already suspected that the hardware I'm using was not giving me good throughput. I have a Logitech USB combo headset and mic. It's okay but more suited for VOiP applications than for sound recording.
The problem with the model I have is that the mic boom is fixed length (short) and while it swivels about the right headpone, it is not bendable or otherwise adjustable. So the mic stays off and back from the corner of my mouth. I don't get those good recording waves and troughs unless I remove the headset and put the mic in front of my mouth.
Well, that's the way it goes. I could keep adjusting volume in software but I'm hoping that the new Plantronics headset I will be getting early next week will be a better recording solution than the Logitech.
Thanks again for the feedback!
