Wow. Hugh, and Chris, I just listened to some of your recordings and BOY am I impressed. Lovely pacing, both of you.

Gord, one more thing about filenames -- may I suggest numbering them thus:

leaves_01_whitman
leaves_02_whitman

etc

So that they will be ordered correctly? (otherwise 30 will come before 4 when alphabetically ordered by computer...)

Ok now I'll stop fussing about minutiae and go read :)

Hi. I'm new to this, but I'd like to take on Bk. 13 & 14. I do have a question about a possible typo:

in Bk 13, ch 3, it reads:
Ended the stately rhythmus of Una and Oriana, ended the quest of the
holy Graal,

Seems like it should be Grail to me. Anyone got a print copy to check?

Is there an expected turn around on these, a deadline of any kind?

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Hi there, Eric!

Funny thing, I happen to be a York Theatre Alumni (85-89)!

Small world.

At any rate, I do have a copy at home, but it is only selections from Leaves of Grass and not the complete text. I'll check tonight if my copy has the lines in questions and if so, I'll let you know.

I've noticed a number of typos in the Gutenberg text. It's the worst one for typos that I've read to date.

The original "Target Completion Date" was in November, but as this one has been slow to garner volunteers I extended that date to December 15, 2005 (that's when we hope to have the entire book completed). So there's no pressure ... :)

About the Holy Graal... I did a quick Google... it appears that Graal is an alternate spelling of Grail.

See: http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/OMACL/Graal/

As for how it should be pronounced... well, you're guess is probably better than mine!

Here's a link to a computer generated pronunciation:

http://www.cooldictionary.com/words/graal.word

But just going with grail would be fine, I'm sure.

I'm about to start recording books 13 & 14. How do I label that in my file name? Does this work?

leaves_13-14_whitman.mp3

ID3 tags:

Track: leaves_book_13_and_14
Album: leaves_of_grass
Artist: whitman_walt

Or am I supposed to make two files?

I bet there are rules laid out somewhere I just haven't found yet. :D

thx eric

Don't worry too much about the naming, I'll re-edit the files to make them consist once the book is complete.

There are no strict rules. You can do one or two files as you prefer... but I would recommend two files. Generally speaking an MP3 at 128kbps of over 40 minutes starts to become to unwieldy for file transfer and download (just my rule of thumb). It's also easier for the listener to move through the files to the section of the book they are interested in if the files are split by Book.

Unless your total recording time is under 40 minutes, I think two files would be best.

Assuming you do one file, however:

leaves_13-14_whitman.mp3

ID3 tags:

Track: leaves_book_13-14
Album: leaves_of_grass
Artist: whitman_walt

Would be correct and:

leaves_13_whitman.mp3

ID3 tags:

Track: leaves_book_13
Album: leaves_of_grass
Artist: whitman_walt

For one book at a time...

For those that are interested, you can check out my reading of the first half of Book III.

Song of Myself is taking much longer than anticipated to read through, so I am splitting Book III into 4 rather than two sections.

Below are the first two sections.

http://gordmackenzie.com/librivox/leaves_03_13-26.mp3
both at 128 kbps

Hi Gord...

Got the next two sections done:

Books 8, 9, 10
Books 11, 12

Both are also linked through my blog.

Take care,
Chris
