The Four Feathers by A. E. W. M. (1865-1948).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-four-feathers-by-a-e-w-mason-2/
The Four Feathers is a 1902 adventure novel by British writer A.E.W. Mason that has inspired many films of the same title.
The novel tells the story of British officer, Harry Feversham, who resigns his commission in the East Surrey Regiment just prior to Sir Garnet Wolseley's 1882 expedition to Egypt to suppress the rising of Urabi Pasha. He is faced with censure from three of his comrades for cowardice, signified by the delivery of three white feathers to him, from Captain Trench and Lieutenants Castleton and Willoughby, and the loss of the support of his Irish fiancée, Ethne Eustace, who presents him with the fourth feather. His best friend in the regiment, Captain Durrance becomes his rival for Ethne.
(Summary extracted from Wikipedia)

  1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim (or by the target completion date, whatever is sooner). Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen. The target completion date for this project is 25th December 2011.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/18883
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: Standard

I can set this up for you - back with MW later

Anne

All set up - I changed your file name to just fourfeathers - we normally don't use the the. And I suppose we need to remind people about the authors date of death - it almost certainly would have been published in England
We will see if we can snare a DPL :D

Hi mrmonkeyshoes,
Welcome to LibriVox! :D
Thanks, I'll sign you up for chapter 34. Please read the first post of this thread carefully.
Also, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalog. We can also link to a personal web site/blog.
If this is your first recording, we ask that you send in a 1-minute test recording. This is not an audition, it's just to make sure the sound quality and the recording settings are all right - often things can be improved at the outset that are difficult to fix later. Please go to this wiki page to find out what to record for your 1-minute test, and how to upload the recording. In the LibriVox Uploader, please select 'tests - tests' from the MC drop-down, and then post your test recording in the Listeners Wanted forum, rather than in this thread - you'll get feedback more quickly there.
Have fun!

Did I hear a call for a DPL? I'm new and have only PL'd a couple chapters, but this is a project I'd love to get behind. If you don't mind having a noobie, I'd love to DPL with the following understanding: I can't get on to check things everyday, so once something is posted, it would take me a couple of days to download it, a couple to listen, and then a couple to post on it.

Jeanny is the book co-ordinator so it is her say - but there is no problem with not being here every day, your plan sounds fine.

To Josh and Mr Monkey shoes
Everyone who appears in the catalogue has the choice of using their forum name or using a Real Name - it's about 50:50 I think which they choose
So if either of you wish your real name to appear in the catalogue just post here and we will arrange it The choice is yours :D
